The Effect of Transformational Leadership on Nurses' Performance

Background: Transformational leadership globally plays an important role in the health care system especially patient care by nurses, because performance of the staff nurses link closely to the leadership styles. Now a day's health care organizations facing shortage of nurses for delivery of evidence base care to patient. Suitable leadership style in nurses can overcome the dearth of qualified and competent nurses as well as fulfill the health care organizations goal. Numerous researchers proven that competent leaders enhance the nurses performance during patient care. Objectives: The objective of this study was to identify the effect of transformational leadership on nurses' performance in two tertiary care government hospitals (Jinnah and Children), Lahore Pakistan. Method:In this study quantitative non-interventional descriptive cross sectional study design was used on n =250 participants from two government hospitals Lahore Pakistan. Results: The effect of transformational leadership on nurses' performance was identified positively. Descriptive, Correlation and Regression analysis on SPSS shows significant findings for this study. Finding of regression test shows that transformational leadership has positive effect on nurses' performance. The values of regression test are 1 as it shows that strong relationship of transformational leadership on nurses' performance. Conclusions:This study highlighted that transformational leadership enhance nurses performance so, it is important to prepared and trained the nurses leaders for utilization of transformational leadership style at health care setting for enhancement of nurses performance. Nurses' knowledge and practice may be enhancingthrough workshop and seminars. Health care organizations may develop mechanism for the improvement of nurses' performance through transformational leadership style and develop the research based culture.

Introduction: Leadership style of nurse managers play an important role on registered nurses’ retention and organizational productivity thru quality nursing care which is costly to healthcare organizations. This study intends to examine registered nurse’s overall perception of transformational leadership and its related factors of nurse manager in divisional hospitals, The Republic of Fiji. Method: This descriptive study included 348 nurses selected from 3 divisional hospitals in The Republic of Fiji. Random proportional stratified sampling was used. Research instruments consisted of demographic data form, and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze data. Transformational Leadership Skills among Nursing Managers

Background: Transformational leadership is an influential element in achieving the quality of nursing care. Transformational nursing leaders are a source of inspiration to nurses through their commitment for their healthcare organizations. Transformational nursing managers' insistence to a mission and willingness to take risks along with a strong desire to achieve and drives healthcare organizations to success. Purpose: To identify the level of nursing managers' transformational leadership skills. Methods: A descriptive research design was used. The study was conducted in Menoufia University Hospitals. A convenience sample of sixty two nursing managers constituted the study sample. Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) Form 6S was used to identify the transformational leadership skills among nursing managers. Results: Nursing managers in the hospital setting showed low level (27.7 ±3.1) of transformational leadership skills. The highest mean score was for individual consideration dimension whereas the lowest mean score was for Laissez-faire leadership dimension Conclusion: In-service training program about transformational leadership skills for nursing managers is needed to improve Laissez-faire leadership that increase their insistence to hospitals' mission and desire for success.

This study investigated the relationship between instructors’ transformational leadership style and their job satisfaction in nursing science faculty, University of Somalia. This study aimed (1) to identify the degree in which transformational leadership style is used by the instructors; (2) to determine the satisfaction level of the instructors; and lastly (3) to examine the relationship between instructors’ transformational leadership style and job satisfaction of the nursing science instructors at University of Somalia. This study sought to identify significant differences in nursing leadership strengths by position title. Recent reports show aspects of transformational leadership (TL) related to position, age, and educational level. This study focuses on differentiating the strength of leadership practices across the range of nursing management positions. The Leadership Practices Inventory-Self-assessment survey, and a variety of demographic questions, were used to anonymously poll voluntary members of the Association of California Nurse Leaders. Nursing positions of director level and above were strongest in leadership practices. Those at manager and below were identified as needing additional leadership development. Transformational leadership in nursing practice: challenges and strategies

Objective: to understand the challenges and strategies adopted by nurses for the exercise of Transformational Leadership in a university hospital. Methods: qualitative and exploratory study, in which 25 nurses working in a university hospital in the state of Bahia, Brazil participated. Data collection took place through semi-structured interviews and categorized according to Thematic Analysis, using Nvivo software. Results: The prevalent challenges involved: lack of encouragement from the institution for the training of leaders; professional inexperience and young age; resistance to leadership and insubordination. The strategies adopted by nurses consist of acting as team examples and establishing dialogic relationships. Final considerations: The practice of Transformational Leadership has been relevant in the daily lives of nurses and contributes to the quality of care.

Transformational Leadership and Contextual Performance: A Quantitative Study among Nursing Staff in Kuala Lumpur

The role of nurses in the health care sector is critical and the demand for nurses in Malaysia is expected to reach 130,000 qualified nurses by 2020. This paper investigated the influence of transformational leadership on contextual performance of nurses in Kuala Lumpur. Past research revealed that employee sustainable performance is positively influenced by transformational leadership. However, there is a dearth of studies on the relationship between transformational leadership and employees" contextual performance in the nursing sector in Kuala Lumpur. The present study attempts to fill the research gap by investigating the influence of intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, inspirational motivation and idealized influence towards better contextual performance This was a quantitative research and data was gathered through self-administered questionnaires from 135 nurses in Kuala Lumpur. The SPSS software was used, and the findings revealed that intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, inspirational motivation and idealized influence had a positive correlation with contextual performance. The findings suggest that the four dimensions are interdependent, and they harmonize to yield better contextual performance. The findings of this study have practical implications in nursing leadership. Transformational leadership enables leaders in the nursing sector to motivate nurses and implement change effectively. This study is one of very few studies which have investigated the effect of transformational leadership on employee"s contextual performance in the nursing sector in Kuala Lumpur. The results of this study will add to the current body of knowledge plus assist in creating foundational solutions to improve performance of nurses.
