The Creation of Fiber Artworks Sourced from Aesthetic of Lurik Woven Fabrics

This article aims to describe the process of making fiber artworks that originates from aesthetic values and philosophical meanings in traditional Lurik woven fabrics. The method is carried out by collecting information, developing preliminary products, preliminary products testing, revising main products, and testing main products. The discussion includes: (1) a description of the aesthetic values and philosophical meaning of the Lurik woven fabric, which has a visual style of vertical lines and colors in a repetitive and rhythmic composition. In each pattern, there are philosophical meanings about life guidelines, such as patience, fortitude, strength, protection, and hope for a better life. (2) a description of the process of making fiber artworks originating from the aesthetic and philosophical significance of Lurik woven fabric, through the development of techniques and mixed media; weaving, embroidery, and painting. The result of the discussion or findings of this research is that the philosophical and aesthetic meaning of Lurik woven fabric can be used as a source of ideas for creating new artworks. Matters relating to philosophical meanings can be realized through messages and new visual symbols according to the current situation, while those relating to the aesthetics of the medium and the structure of the Lurik fabric can be developed in the form of fiber artworks.
Assessing the Suitability of Woven Fabric and Composite Textile Techniques for Mural Production

This art studio experimental study explored the suitability of woven cotton fabric as alternative material for creating pictorial designs for murals based on the batik, tie-and-dye, screen printing, appliqué and embroidery techniques in textiles. While painted and sculpted murals abound in Ghana, the study found textile murals a seemingly unknown art form. The experiments proved that plain woven mercerized cotton and damask fabrics are good materials for creating pictorial designs for textile murals. With the exception of the tie-dye technique which generates undefined pictorial designs, the batik, screen printing, appliqué and embroidery techniques yield significantly well-defined designs for producing textile murals. Displaying the textile murals in dry, airy places prevents fungal attack and easy deterioration which ensures a long shelf life for the murals.

Present study was conducted for transforming Kantha traditional embroidery designs for fabric painting on jacket for its revival at Hisar, India. Textiles are important part of our daily life that is available in a variety of colors, patterns and texture. Further to make fabric more interesting, a variety of textile finishes are being in use now a days. Application of textile finishing agents is still the primary approach for improving such properties. Fragrant finishing of textiles is one such immaculate magnanimous entry into any textile culture. This research is a contribution in the textile design sector. By application of textile design and fragrance finish can b produce value added products. In this study, researchers will develop a relationship between printed textiles and fragranance finished fabric regarding corresponding and non-corresponding textile designs.The relationship of textile design and textile finishing is very strong. In the present work the printed textiles fabric was developed with fragrance finishes to enhance the quality of textile substrate for apparel Corresponding & Non Corresponding prints on the fabric have been developed through Digital Printing method. The Effect Of Color Temperature And Background Color On Handwoven Fabric Exhibition

Pieces of valuable handwoven fabrics are exhibited in museums to express their aesthetics, creativity, and knowledge from the locals. Therefore, the protective measures from the risk of deterioration must be carefully considered. Simultaneously, the display should enhance the attractiveness of these fabrics. The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of correlated color temperatures and the background colors of the exhibits on handwoven fabrics. A mock-up room is built for the assessment. The illuminance level as recommended for the conservation is applied. The evaluation of the perception is done by displaying the handwoven-natural dyed color silk fabric of three different colors in front of three different backdrop colors. Each setting is tested with two different color temperatures. Six different scenarios are evaluated by a sample group of 60 people. The data collected from questionnaires are assessed and analyzed by using the statistical calculation method. The findings will provide some appropriate techniques for enhancing the display of handwoven fabrics and promoting positive effects to the valuable fabric exhibition.

This novel textile mural production technique involves combination of digital printed fabric on flex sheet in conjunction with conventional appliqué and embroidery techniques. It was art-based studio research design that made use of exploration and experimental methods in the execution of four murals with different scenery. The works depict various activities within the Textiles section programme, Faculty of Art, College of Art and Built Environment, KNUST as a case study with the intent to promote and educate the populace. The activities were arranged into different scenery out of which four were selected for production. Step-by-step universal design methodology was carefully followed to ensure precision and easy reproduction of the murals. Flex sheet was used as substrate for the print out of the final works on which dyed, printed and woven fabrics were fixed to complete the sceneries. Wooden frames and transparent polyethylene rubber were used for the finishing of the works for them to be able to withstand harsh weather condition in order for them to be suitable for both outdoor and indoor purposes. Background lighting system was installed within the frame to enhance their aesthetic appeal. This work was set to address the cumbersome, tedious, time consuming processes involve in conventional production of textile mural; cutting of pieces of textile materials and fixing them onto a substrate by applique and embroidery techniques. The importance of this alternative method is that it takes care of all the setbacks in the convention method as well as ensures precise and accurate reproduction of the work if need be. These were successful test projects that have set a new pace in design and production of textile mural. Combination of computer-aided design programmes like Adobe Photoshop CC and CorelDraw applications enable easy reproduction of textile murals in relatively shorter time with much precision and good finishing. Textile artists and interested researchers can now explore this new area of research for national development.

This research aims to study woven fabric construction with natural indigo dyeing with finishing for home textile applications. The physical and mechanical properties, including color fastness tests, of these woven fabrics according to ISO standards for home textiles exported to the European Union were characterized. Tensile strength, tear strength, and pilling resistance of these woven fabrics were appropriate to design, and had enough strength for bed linens, duvet covers, and pillowcases. The color fastness to washing, water, and light of these woven fabrics passed the requirements for bed linens and pillowcases, except for color fastness to wet rubbing, due to the low performance of natural dyestuff. Thus, a finishing technique of water repellency was applied to improve these properties. Textile products are not only patronised for their functionality and communicative purposes, but equally for their aesthetics. Marbling has been a cherished art for centuries with attractive and intricate designs used for decorative purposes. The study explores the possibility of transferring marbling designs using reactive and vat dyes combination through screen printing method to produce fabrics that can be fashioned into garments and accessories. The study employed both descriptive and experimental methods to assess market trends of existing fabric designs in selected markets in the country and then produce marbling effects using vat and reactive dyes to popularise the art for everyday usage in fabric, garments and accessories. Mercerized cotton was used as based material for the printing processes which were fashioned into garments and accessories. The market survey on existing fabric designs revealed non-availability of designs reflecting the silk screen marbling effects using vat dyes as print paste on reactive dyed backgrounds in the Ghanaian market, hence paving the way for the experiment to that effect. The results from the experiment established that the fluidity of the marbling designs with its colour integration in aesthetic manner makes it favourable to compete in the fabric market. This, the researchers believed forms the basis for more further study in exploring related arts as means of expanding creativity and creating jobs for the youth. India had always been known as the land that portrayed cultural and traditional vibrancy through its conventional arts and crafts. Every region in India has its own style and folk art which are very ethnic and simple, and yet colorful and vibrant enough to speak volumes about the rich heritage. Folk art in India apparently has a great potential in the international market because of its traditional aesthetic sensibility and authenticity. The two most famous folk painting are Warli art of Maharashtra and Madhubani art of Mithila.
