The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between 21st century skills, communication skills and leadership styles of school principals according to teachers’ perceptions. The universe of the study consists of kindergarten, primary school, middle school, and high school teachers working in the district of Karadeniz Ereğli at the province of Zonguldak in the academic year 2019-2020. The study sample includes 272 teachers. The participants in this study were determined non-randomly through stratified sampling method. Three data collection instruments are used in the study. In order to analyze the data in the study according to the research questions, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis were used. In the study, it is revealed that school principals have levels of high 21st century skills and communication skills. When the leadership styles of school principals are examined, it is seen that they exhibit more transformational leadership style. In the study, it is also found that 21st century skills and communication skills of school principals have a positive effect on their leadership styles.

Okul Yöneticilerinin İletişim Becerilerine İlişkin Öğretmenlerin Algı ve Görüşleri (Teachers' Perception and Opinions Regarding the Communication Skills of School Administrators)

The aim of this study is to evaluate communication skills of school administrators according to the perceptions and opinions of the branch teachers working in secondary schools. In the study, the explanatory pattern involving the quantitative and qualitative methods was used. Quantitative part of the study was designed in the screening model. The quantitative data was collected from 211 teachers working in the province of Sivas through the "Scale for Communication Skills of School Principals". The qualitative part of the study, however, was conducted in accordance with the case study design. The qualitative data, on the other hand, was obtained from 20 teachers working in the province of X through the semi-structured interview form. Quantitative findings of the study show that the teachers perceive the communication skills of school administrators highly positive whereas they, in general, they find the communication skills of school administrators unsatisfying according to the qualitative findings. In this context, we can say that the qualitative findings do not support the quantitative findings, and accordingly, the school administrators have problems in their communication skills. Extended Abstract Purpose and Significance: The most important element that starts the process of communication and determines the structure and nature of the communication is the school principal (Celep, 2000). The school principal, who has the characteristic of human resources manager in a school organization, is also a communication leader. An organization without communication is not possible. Yet, it is also impossible to have a common goal in a school organization without communication, to achieve this goal and to coordinate human resources of the school organization (Karslı, 2006). The Principals‟ Leadership Styles and Teachers‟ Performance

This study aimed to determine their opinions regarding the effect of secondary school principals' leadership styles on teachers' performance. Target population of the study constituted 1524 teachers working in public and private secondary schools in 2014-2015 school year within the boundaries of Etimesgut district. Research sample consisted of 306 teachers who were selected from this population simple random sampling method. Research data were collected using a questionnaire borne the name "leadership survey", which consists of two parts including "personal information and information on institution where task is performed" and "effect of leadership characteristics of school principals on teachers' performance". Ethical, transformative, cultural, instructional and visionary leadership styles were discussed within the scope of research. The styles of "Ethical Leadership", "Transformational Leadership", "Cultural Leadership", "Instructional Leadership" and "Visionary Leadership" discussed here have been found to have an effect upon teacher performance at the level of "I agree". Five behaviors of each leadership characteristic were determined using factor analysis technique. It has been determined that behaviors of "behaving in accordance with what one has said", "integrating moral principles and rules of conduct into school culture", "showing respect for moral values and traditions" and "maintaining order and discipline necessary for an effective education and training" had an effect upon teacher performance at the level of "I quite agree", behaviors of "creating an environment where teachers can learn the history of school" and "watching on site education-training by visiting the classes" at the level of "I partly agree" and the behaviors apart from these at the level of "I agree".

Examination of Graduate Thesis on the Management Skills of School Heads

Bu araştırmada Türkiye'de gerçekleştirilen okul yöneticilerinin yönetim becerileri çalışmalarına yönelik yazılmış olan yüksek lisans ve doktora tezleri incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın amacı, okul yöneticilerinin yönetim becerileri ile ilgili olarak yazılmış olan lisansüstü tezlerin yıllara, cinsiyete, türlerine, üniversitelere, araştırma yöntemlerine, örneklem kitlesine, araştırma desenlerine, ölçme araçları ve veri analizi tekniklerine göre nasıl dağılım gösterdikleri belirlenmeye yöneliktir. Yapılan araştırmanın, yıllar içerisinde okul yöneticilerinin yönetim becerileri çalışmalarında gelinen noktayı görebilmek ve gelecekte yapılacak olan çalışmalara yol gösterici olması bakımından önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir. Nitel araştırmanın modeli niteliğindeki çalışmada içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre okul yöneticilerinin yönetim becerileri ile ilgili olan tezlerin incelenmesi ile erkeklerin kadınlara oranla bu alanda daha fazla araştırma yaptıkları tespit edilmiştir. Tezlerin yıllara göre dağılımı incelendiğinde, 2019 yılından sonra okul yöneticilerinin yönetim becerileri ilgili araştırmaların çok fazla yapıldığı görülmektedir. Tezlerin türlerine göre olan dağılımı incelendiğinde yüksek lisans çalışmalarının daha fazla olduğu görülmektedir. Okul yöneticilerinin yönetim becerileri ile ilgili olarak yazılmış olan tezler en fazla Yeditepe Üniversitesi ve Çanakkale 18 Mart Üniversitesi'nde yazıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Okul yöneticilerinin yönetim becerileri ile ilgili yazılmış olan tezlerin büyük bir çoğunluğunda örneklem kitlesinin okul yöneticileri ve öğretmenler oluşturmaktadır. Okul yöneticilerinin yönetim becerileri ile ilgili yazılmış olan tezlerin büyük bir çoğunluğunda araştırma yöntemi olarak nicel yöntem tercih edilmiştir. Araştırmalarda kullanılan araştırma desenleri incelendiğinde nicel araştırmalarda tarama, nitel araştırmalarda durum desenin fazla kullanıldığı görülmüştür. Okul yöneticilerinin yönetim becerileri ile ilgili yazılmış olan tezlerde veri toplama araçları olarak daha çok ölçek ve anket kullanılmıştır. Tezlerde çoğunlukla veri analizlerinde t-testi, içerik analizi ve Anova testleri kullanılmıştır. T-testi ve Anova analizlerinin fazlaca kullanılmış olması karşılaştırmalı analizlerin çok fazla yapıldığını göstermektedir. Nitel veri analizlerinde daha çok içerik analizi tercih edilmiştir.

Communication Skills of Faculty of Education Instructors: An Evaluation Study from the Perspective of Teacher Candidates

Bu araştırmanın amacı, eğitim fakültesinde görev yapan öğretim elemanlarının iletişim becerilerini öğretmen adaylarının bakış açısıyla değerlendirmektir. Araştırma, temel nitel araştırma desenine göre tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcı grubunu, 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Türkiye’deki bir devlet üniversitesinin eğitim fakültesinde on üç farklı branşta öğrenim görmekte olan öğretmen adayları oluşturmaktadır. 61’i kadın, 17’si erkek olan katılımcıların belirlenmesinde iki aşamalı örneklem belirleme yoluna başvurulmuştur. Buna göre ilk aşamada ölçüt örnekleme ikinci aşamada ise maksimum çeşitlilik örneklemesi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak açık uçlu anket formu kullanılmıştır. This study aims to examine the relationship between school principals' 21st century skills and their strategic leadership according to teachers' opinions. In this quantitative research, a descriptive model that describes the situation was used. The study was conducted in Ankara, and 424 teachers joined the study. To get data from teachers, two scales were used: 21st Century Educational Administrators' Skills Scale and Strategic Leadership Scale. In order to determine the level of school principals' 21st century skills and their strategic leadership, descriptive analysis was used as well as Pearson Correlation Analysis and Regression analysis. There were significant positive relationships between all dimensions of educational administrators' 21st century skills and strategic leadership behaviors. Besides, education managers' 21st century skills were found to be a significant predictor of their strategic leadership behaviors. As a result of the research, it was revealed that information literacy, technology literacy, accountability, leadership and responsibility were significant predictors of managerial leadership behavior. School administrators need to increase their levels of knowledge literacy, technological literacy, accountability, leadership, and responsibility skills in order to improve their managerial leadership behaviors.
