Introduction: The international literature presents a significant gap in the study of the factors affecting caring behaviors as perceived by nurses. This gap requires the study of the factors of nurses' caring behavior. Aim: The translation and the cultural adaptation of the Factors of Nurses Caring Behaviors (FNCB) scale in the Greek language, the validity, and internal consistency of the scale. Methods: Between November-December 2019, 329 Greek nurses from six public general hospitals completed the FNCB scale consisting of 32 items rating on a 5-point Likert scale. The scale was firstly translated in the Greek language, then back-translated in the English language and culturally adapted. To investigate the construct validity of the scale, exploratory factor analysis was carried out with principal component analysis. The test-retest reliability was performed while the internal consistency was checked through Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Statistical analysis was performed via the Statistical Program SPSS version 21.0. The statistical significance level was set up at 0.05. Results: The final Greek version of the FNCB Scale includes six factors which were revealed from the exploratory factor analysis: Workplace Circumstances, Workload/Management, Interest/Perceptions on Nursing Job,Nurse's Educational Background, Patient's Demographic Characteristics, and Patient's Clinical Characteristics. The internal consistency of the scale was excellent (Cronbach's alpha 0.95). Conclusions: The Greek version of the FNCB Scale is a valid and reliable questionnaire which can be used for the measure of factors affecting nurses' caring behavior.
Nurse Caring Behaviors from Patients’ and Nurses’ Perspective: A Comparative Study
European Online Journal of Natural and Social Sciences, 2014
Caring is a complex concept but nevertheless with many definitions of it, unfortunately there is not agreement among researchers about the definitions of caring. As patients are the recipients of care, it is important to identify their perceptions of caring. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to compare nurse caring behaviors from patient's and nurse's perspective. The sample consisted of 150 patients hospitalized in Boushehr hospitals and 50 nurses caring for their patients. Data were collected using a quota sampling method and Caring Behaviors Inventory (CBI). Findings showed that, there were significant differences between patients and nurses perspective in subscales including Assurance of human presence and Attentiveness to other's experience. Moreover, there was a significant difference in total scale of nurse caring behaviors between patient's and nurse's perspective (t=2.559, P=0.011). Significant difference in nurse caring behaviors between nurse and patient satisfaction implies, howbeit nurses believe that they care for patients but can't to make an estimate of their expectations. To reduce this Gap, nurses should attend to human caring and inform patients to real caring.
Determinants of Nurses' Caring Behaviors (DNCB): Preliminary Validation of a Scale
Journal of caring sciences, 2013
Nurses' Caring behaviors might be affected by many variables. The aim of this study was to develop and test a valid and reliable questionnaire to specify these determinants. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were applied to develop the questionnaire. The development process of the instrument was conducted in three phases. The first phase consisted of four steps: in-depth interviews, development of the preliminary version of the 38-item DNCB, expert panel review, and language revision. The second phase involved examining 143 qualified nurses for psychometric properties of the DNCB. The participants were selected, based on quota sampling approach, from four educational hospitals affiliated to Urmia University of Medical Sciences, Iran. The final phase involved testing of the revised instrument using exploratory factor analysis. The results showed good CVI (0.89), test-retest correlation coefficient (0.91), internal consistency reliability (0.93), and acceptable face and co...

Caring is one of the main ways to get patient satisfaction. However, caring has only been interpreted as empathy, and without regard to the cultural background of patients. The aim of this study was to assess patient satisfaction about nurse caring behavior and to identify the predictors based on Swanson's Theory of Caring and Transcultural Nursing Theory. Method: Cross-sectional studies were conducted in patients at a hospital in Gresik District (n = 520 by simple random sampling) from August to December 2019. This study used maintaining beliefs, culture care preservation, knowing, being with, negotiating, doing for, enabling, and restructuring as independent variables, and patient satisfaction as the dependent variable. The instrument in this study was developed in accordance with the standard guideline of Swanson's Theory combined with Transcultural Nursing Theory; patient satisfaction was measured using PSQ. Multiple linear regression was used to identify predictors. Result: Mean score of patient satisfaction was 7.09 (SD = 0.936), maintaining belief (0,02), culture care preservation (0.03), knowing (0.01), being with (0.03), negotiation (0.02), doing for (0.03), enabling (0.04), and restructuring (0.03) significantly predicted client satisfaction (R Square = 0.895). The constructs of the Cultural Caring Model significantly predicted patient satisfaction. This study supports an investigation about the factors underlying client satisfaction on a larger scale, as well as the identification of targets in designing future interventions.
Psychometric properties of Persian version of the Caring Dimension Inventory (PCDI-25)
Iranian Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Research, 2014
Background: The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties (validity and reliability) of Persian version of the 25-item Caring Dimension Inventory (CDI-25). Materials and Methods: A psychometric instrument validation study was designed. Content validity, internal consistency, and stability were confirmed. A total of 288 participants (143 nurses and 145 nursing students) were selected based on quota sampling approach. Results: The PCDI-23 showed good test–retest (Spearman correlation coefficient of 0.89 for nursing students and 0.91 for nurses), internal consistency reliability (0.86), and acceptable face and construct validity. However, considering the results of analyses, excluding items 4 and 16 from the Persian version of the CDI is suggested. Conclusion: This instrument can be used to determine caring behaviors and nurses’ perceptions of the importance of caring behaviors among Persian language nurses.
Development of Thai Nurses’ Caring Behavior Scale
Background Caring is often regarded as a significant concept in the science and art of nursing. It has been recognized nurses sustain caring under any circumstance, and caring is an integral part of a nurse's attitude as a professional, as well as an individual. Thus, caring requires personal, social, moral and spiritual engagement on the part of a nurse, as well as commitment to self and others. 1 According to Watson, 2 caring occurs

Caring is the essence of nursing practice. Caring Efficacy scale was developed with the purpose of measuring nurses' perceived self-efficacy in orienting and maintaining caring relationships with patients. Since any instruments measuring caring self-efficacy have not been developed in Italy, the study aimed at culturally adapting and validating Caring Efficacy scale in a sample of Italian nurses. A total of 300 registered nurses were asked to fill a selfreported questionnaire; translation-back-translation procedure was carried out to maintain semantic, idiomatic and conceptual equivalence of the original scale. Then, factor analysis was performed in order to test appropriateness of the factor structure. Convergent and discriminant validity was also tested. A two-factor structure with 17 items was found. Results show that Cronbach's Alpha value was 0.84 for Confidence to Care, and 0.75 for Doubts and Concerns. Correlation analysis for convergent and discriminant validity showed that Confidence to Care was positively correlated with sense of coherence and no significant correlation with Doubts and Concerns was found. Caring efficacy scale can be used by nurse managers as a way of assessing nurses' self-efficacy and their caring orientation, thus improving quality of patient care.
