New challenges to online learning: Ethical aspect

The article is devoted to the study of ethical challenges arising in the field of higher education, due to a shift of education to distance learning. This task is carried out based on a study of the results of the survey of students of the Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University named after V.P. Astafiev and analysis of educational practices used by teachers in distance learning and analysis of students’ behaviors in the situation of total e-learning. The study addresses two sets of problems: 1) ethical problems of teaching staff caused by their work in an electronic university environment, 2) ethical problems of the student audience in the context of distance learning. "e- Learning environments require policies balancing different expectations of participants and considering how the users perceive ethics during online learning. As in the case of face-to-face classes; learners must show respect and tolerance among each other, and conduct civil relations and interaction based on pre-determined rules. Starting with a literature review, the purpose of this study is to analyze the opinions of the instructors and 3rd - 4th year students of a distance education program about ethical conduct and interaction. The research methodology is case- oriented. Learner diversity, behavioral and legal regulations in the online environment are the parameters chosen for surveying the instructors and learners. Following the analysis of results, the opinions of the students and those of the instructors are explained and discussed.
A study on ethical aspects and legal issues in e-learning
E-learning offers tremendous opportunities for a world-wide community to get access to first-class educational content. Though technology is advanced with respect to sophisticated e-learning platforms, many issues remain unsolved, e.g., students cheating in exams, lecturers using copyright-protected materials that should not be made publicly available, etc. In this paper, we analyse reasons why, and point out obstacles that hinder wide adoption of e-learning. To this end, the paper follows a two-fold approach. First, we critically evaluate related work. Second, we create and conduct a representative survey. Herewith we identify the main barriers on the way to a broad usage and acceptance of distance learning technologies.

Through this perspective, online learning environments have an important potential, owing to their nature to reach international audiences. Following the statistical analysis on survey results, the correlation between the opinions of the students and the instructors, as regards ethics in online learning environments are discussed. "
Causes and Implications of Ethical Challenges Increased in Online Teaching and Learning

The geometrical growth and sudden transformation of technologies as a result of Covid-19 have provided an evolutionary means of learning online with sophisticated and enabling devices with a click. Teaching and learning online, though enabling flexibility and interactivity between the teacher and students, yet requires regulations and policies that coordinate and balance different expectations of learners and teachers. Technology-Based Ethical Issues in Online Learning

Ethical issues in online learning have been a subject of scrutiny since the start of the infiltration of technology, remote learning, and distance learning in educational systems. The benefits of online learning include self-learning, a cheaper form of education, flexibility, and the comfort of having classes or attending classes in the coziness of your own space. However, ethical issues have been a concern to deal with by educational leaders, school administrators, teachers, and students. Six recent studies backed with contemporary literature were bound to analysis through a thematic analysis approach. This study uncovered three common ethical issues in online learning: academic fraud, technology appropriateness, compatibility, and consent and confidentiality. The study exposed collaboration, plagiarism, and cheating using the internet during tests and exams as standard practices in academic fraud. The study also showed an unequal distribution of ICT, infrastructure problems, lack of digital literacy, digital divide, and out-of-date technology as disputes in technology appropriateness and compatibility. Using student data analytics, public assessment, and feedbacking are some matters on consent and confidentiality. This research can help students and educators reflect and expand their knowledge on academic fraud, consent and confidentiality, and technology appropriateness and compatibility, and create actions to address them while maximizing technology in delivering quality education. This makes a way in lobbying, crafting, or fortifying policies, rules, and regulations, and professional development.

Abstract The use of IT in third level teaching is increasing worldwide. This can lead to ethical problems. In this paper the attempt is made to develop a framework for the identification of these ethical issues. For that purpose the concepts of ethics and morality are defined and their impact on education is discussed. Starting from this general description, the impact of the use of IT on the ethical side of education is analysed.
A Study to Investigate State of Ethical Development in E-Learning
Different researches evidenced that e-learning has provided more opportunities to behave unethically than in traditional learning. A descriptive quantitative enquiry-based study is performed to explore same issue in e-Learning environments. The factors required for ethical development of students were extracted from literature. Later, efforts are made to assess their significance and their status in e-Learning with 5point Likert scale survey. The sample consisted of 47 teachers, 298 students, and 31 administrative staff of e-learning management being involved in e-Learning. The work also observed state of students on various ethical behaviors. The study emphasized that the physical presence of teacher, an ethically conducive institutional environment, and the involvement of the society members are among the main factors that help in the ethical development of a student which are missing in e-Learning. The results of the study showed that the moral behavior of e-Learners is at decline because of lack of these required factors in e-Learning. This work also suggested the need of a model indicating how these deficiencies can be addressed by the educational institutions for ethical development of higher education learners.
