Improving Students’ Speaking Skill Through Project Based Learning (PBL)

Project Based- Learning (PBL) is one of teaching technique where the students work in group project and it is required students for designing, planning, and carrying out an extended project that produces a publicly- exhibited output such as a product, publication, or presentation. This research used Classrom Action Research as the research method. The sample of this research were 30 students of the tenth grade, Tehnik Instalasi Tenaga Listrik of SMK PGRI 3 CIMAHI. The students assessed by using speaking rubric by Brown 2004. The data were calculated by using SPSS. As the result, the technique can improve the students speaking skill. It is concluded based on data analyzed. In the first cycle, the students categorized as the poor and low English speaking while the second and the third cycle, the students showed a significant achievement and categorized in good average. Redefining Project Based Learning in English Class

This study used the experimental method with quasi experimental design, specifically, non-equivalent control group design. There were two groups, namely, experimental group in which it was given treatment by using PBL and control group in which it was give n no treatment. For collecting the data, both groups were given speaking test and selfconfidence questionnaire. For speaking, the data were collected using speaking test which was evaluated by two raters using analytic rubric consisting of five elements, namely accent, grammar, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Meanwhile, students' self-confidence was evaluated using a ready-made-self-confidence questionnaire which measured (1) language use anxiety, (2) causal attribution, (3) perceived L2 competence, and (4) self-efficacy. Both data were analyzed by using t-test to see the difference in means (1) between pre-and post-test of students' speaking achievements and of their self-confidence, and (2) of post-test of speaking achievements and of their self-confidence between the first and the second group. Regression analysis was also given to see the contribution of PBL to the variables in questions. The results showed that (1) there was a significant difference both in speaking achievement (t=8.828, p<.000) and self-confidence (t=7.968,p<.000) of the experimental group after being taught using PBL, (2) there was also a significant difference between experimental and control groups both in speaking ability (t=2.307, p<.027) and self-confidence (t=3.595, p<.001) , (3) the contribution of PBL to the students' speaking achievement was 99.7% and to self-confidence was 92.7%. In conclusion, PBL could be considered as an effective method in teaching speaking and in increasing students' self-confidence.
Do Learners Like Project in Their English Classes?: Impact of PBL on Students’ Attitudes

This article presents the results of a study on the effect of Project-Based Learning (PBL) on students’ English language learning (ELL) attitudes and how the activities influence teaching-learning process in a junior high school in Bali. This research applied an embedded mixed-method design in which the quantitative data were collected using close-ended questionnaires test, and the qualitative data were collected using interview, observation checklist, open-ended questionnaire, and field note. Paired-samples t-test was used to analyse whether or not there is a significant effect on students’ attitude after being taught using PBL, while the qualitative data were analysed descriptively. The analysis shows a significant effect on students’ attitude. Project-Based Learning (PBL) for Teaching English in SMA

Project-based learning (PBL) is used to make learning like acquisition so that it is more natural and interesting and the students are interested and motivated in learning English. The objective of the research is to develop a model for teaching English using PBL which is feasible to develop the students' four English skills. The research method used is Educational Research and Development by designing a prototype consisting of the following steps: determining basic questions, designing a project, making a schedule, conducting the project, monitoring the project, examining the results, and evaluating the experience. The prototype was tried out for teaching English to SMA students, the weaknesses were revised, it was tried out again and revised until it became a feasible model. The result of the research shows that the model is feasible for the teacher to teach English and for the students to study and develop their four English skills (listening, reading, speaking, and writing). It implies that project-based learning can be used by the English teachers to teach English to develop the students' four English skills.

Communication is the sending of information or messages to related parties. 80% of the skills or competencies needed are soft skills. 49% of soft skills are skills or abilities that must be present in each employee, namely basic communication skills. communication skills are not only used in work, but communication skills are also needed in the field, considering that communication skills are a point of the 21st century. Improving students' communication skills can be done through learning activities. These efforts can be carried out in several ways, namely the application of learning models that are useful to support communication skills in students. Many models that can be applied in learning are in the form of project-based learning models. The model applied in this research is a literature review (literature analysis). The PBL learning model can improve students' communication skills.
Students’ Perceptions of Group-LED Workshop Project in Current Issues in Applied Linguistics Class

The practice of PBL in classrooms has been explored involving several aspects. However, there are limitations in examining PBL practice in EFL classroom from students’ point of view. Thus, this study was conducted to reveal the use of PBL in an EFL Classroom in a private university in Central Java, Indonesia, from the students’ point of view. The research was conducted in the third semester of the 2017/2018 academic year. The researcher gathered the students’ perceptions of the use of PBL in Current Issues in Applied Lingusitics (CIApL) classrooms through direct interviews with 10 students from different groups. The Implementation of Project-Based Learning to Improve Students' Speaking Skill

This study addresses specific teaching methods, which are believed to achieve a beneficial outcome to students' learning ability. Project Based Learning is a modern teaching method. The core idea of Project Based Learning is to connect student's experiences with school life and to provoke students to acquire new knowledge. This study aims at (1) describing to what extent the use of Project-based Learning can improve the students' speaking skill and (2) describing the teaching and learning process when Project-Based Learning is implemented in the class. The subject of the study is the seventh-grade students of one of Junior High Schools in Surakarta. The method of the study was classroom action research with two cycles. Furthermore, the data were collected through speaking assessment. The finding showed that there was improvement in the students' speaking skill. Some aspects which are improved including students' fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and comprehension. To conclude, PBL (Project-based learning) help student in improving their speaking skill.

As a productive skill, speaking plays important role in expressing and negotiating ideas. This research is aimed to know the improvement of students’ speaking ability towards utilizing Project Based Learning (PBL) Strategy. The Classroom Action Research was used, and it was procedurally consisted of four main steps. The data were collected through observation checklist and oral test. The criterion was set out in order to see the improvement of students’ speaking ability through the application of Project Based Learning Strategy. Project based learning is a method that focusing on students centered by using project as the way of practicing knowledge. RELT subject is a subject learnt about research in English framework. This research aim is to know students’ perception of using project based learning in learning RELT subject. The researched also gain the feedback after using this method. This research using qualitative method. Technique sampling was purposive sampling. The sample was sixth students from sixth semester. Instrument of the research was interview.
