Trade performance of Indian cashew

Trade performance of Indian cashew was analyzed by collecting secondary data on export of cashew kernels, Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) and import of raw cashew nuts for the years 1974-75 to 2007-08. The growth rate of kernel exports was 5.37 per cent with instability index of 8.70 per cent and the export of CNSL was 6.15 per cent with instability index of 41.92 per cent during the post-liberalization period was observed. Among the different countries, USA is a stable market for Indian cashew kernel and CNSL. Further, export potential is to be tapped by creating brand or image loyalty in the potential markets abroad.

Cashew is one of the most valuable processed nuts on global commodity markets and has the potential to generate employment and revenue for developing countries. India is the largest producer, processor, Exporter and the second largest consumer of cashew kernel in the world and earns a sizeable amount of foreign exchange. Cashew ranks second in agriculture and horticulture commodities exported from India. The country is earning 25000 Crores through the export of cashew kernels yearly. Over 65 per cent of the world cashew kernels are accounted by India. Today, India dominates the world cashew market over 564 million, India meets two third of world demand for cashew. Export of cashew kernel from india: its direction and prediction

Cashew is one of the most important dollar earning crops of the country. The quantity of export of cashew kernel had registered a growth of 5.71% per annum. This was made possible both due to increased export to countries of import and changes in composition of India's cashew kernel exports to various destinations. The paper quantifies the changing structure of cashew kernel exports in order to understand the dynamics of changes and the growth rate analysis. The growth rate analysis reveals that, UAE shows the highest growth rate and the countries like USA, Netherland, UK show the negative growth rates. The markov chain model was used to assess the transition probabilities for the major cashew kernel export from India. The result revealed that, the country USA was the highest probability of reduction (0.87) compare to all other countries. The forecasted values for, the countries UAE and 'other countries' show the increasing trend and the countries like USA, UK, Netherland, Japan and France show the decreasing trend.

Economic Asymmetry of Cashew

The globalization has provided dual impact as one is with inculcating number of opportunities to various countries but another is with throwing challenges before developing countries as well as underdeveloped countries. The globalization has made an impact on the trade of different agricultural commodities like cashew. The cashew trade has an important contribution in India's international trade. India is major player in the international cashew market. The present research paper highlights the asymmetries in India's foreign trade of cashew in respect of cashew production, import & export in the context of globalization. The globalization has an impact on the cashew-nut industry in India as well as some other countries. The asymmetries are increasing in Indian Cashew-nut industry.

Strategy of Export Competitiveness Enhancement on Cashew Nut Commodity

Plantation is one of sub sector in agriculture with strategic role and contribution in the Indonesian economic. One of those commodities is cashew nuts. This research aimed to analyze competitiveness of cashew nuts in the international market, to identify factors affecting cashew nuts competitiveness, and to formulate strategy in enhancing cashew nuts competitiveness. The research method used was RCA, ISP, ECI and SWOT. Research result showed that RCA value showed that Indonesian cashew nuts is comparative disadvantage, but Indonesia is as exporter by seeing ISP value, and market share of Indonesian cashew nuts based on ECI value. Indonesia is one of the best quality cashew nut producers and exporters with a 1.2% share in the global market. This is very far from being compared to Vietnam as the world's main exporter of cashew nut controlling 34.07% of the global export market. This study aims to determine the competitive and comparative advantages of cashew nuts from Indonesia and Vietnam in the international market at 2009-2018. Marketing in respect of cashew involved several players and channels. Marketing begins from the sale of raw cashew nuts by farmers and reaches the level of exporters/ retailers for selling of processed and graded kernels to the ultimate consumers. The sample cashew growers sold a major portion of the produce to local traders, who in turn supplied the nuts to large traders and processing units located in Kollam (Kerala), Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu), Mangalore (Karnataka), etc. There are several entities in the marketing channels that get good share in the total spread between the producer and consumer. This Section analyses in detail the marketing aspects of raw nuts and kernels in the study area.
