A Study on Conceptual Associations of Colors in Preschool Children = Renklerin okul öncesi dönem çocuklarindaki kavramsal çagrisimlarina yönelik bir inceleme

Pegem Journal of Education and Instruction, 2019

In this study, the conceptual associations of colors in preschool children were examined with an interdisciplinary perspective. Designed as a preliminary review, this study provides insights and suggestions about how conceptual associations of colors can be used for developing products and services for kids and improving the effectiveness of learning activities in education. This study was designed as descriptive survey because it describes an existing situation. This research's working group was chosen through a purposive sampling method. The study also includes interpreted components. Two-stage interviews were made with 204 children aged between 60 and 72 months in preschool education in Ankara with active participation of their form teachers, and the data were collected using the context analysis technique. The study found that children show dominant preference for certain colors in connection with certain concepts and they made consistent spectrum preference for certain concepts. These preferences indicate that the children aged between 60 and 72 months are able to make associations between concepts and colors and attribute meanings to colors in the background, with important hints for the use of colors in designing products and planning learning activities for children.

Empirical Evidence of Color on Motivation toward Learning

This study was conducted to understand the role of color in motivating children towards learning. The sample was selected from two government schools of a village named Rao Khan Wala near Lahore. Traid color schemes were used as they provide a unique balance of both the cool and warm colors. Furthermore for the selection of the sample's age Piaget's theory of cognition was used and children falling in concrete operational stage were selected in this research. The study revolved around experimental research method in which the research was divided into two phases for data accumulation, the pre stage and post stage. The findings of the study revealed that colors positively increase children's motivation toward learning in classroom settings.

Colour Preference among Children in a Nigerian Montessori School

Mediterranean Journal of Social Sciences, 2014

Colour preference among children has been explored in a variety of populations and cultures. However, there is scanty research on the psychology of colour and, in particular, colour preference among children in Nigeria. Sixty (60) children (30 males and 30 females) randomly drawn from a population of students of a Montessori School in Ibadan, Nigeria participated in the study. A One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) for Repeated Measures Design was used to test five hypotheses stated in the study. Results identified the order of colour preference by the children as red, yellow, tint, white, green, blue, brown and black. Red and yellow were significantly preferred to black. There was significant difference in order of colour among female children, children of age group 9-12 years and children of age group 3-8 years. In conclusion, red and yellow prove to be more stimulating and attractive than any other colour. These findings will be helpful to teaching agencies, and advertising companies and entrepreneurs that major in the production of children materials to know the right colour to use on their products.

The Implementation of Puzzle as a Learning Media to Introduce the Color Concept to Class B Students of Munatuan Early Childhood Education (PAUD) in Kupang District

Digital Press Social Sciences and Humanities, 2020

This study discusses the implementation of puzzle as a learning media to introduce the concept of color to children in PAUD Munatuan. The main problem of this research is how to introduce the concept of color to children through puzzle learning media. The purpose of this study is to figure out how to introduce the concept of color to children through the use of puzzle learning media in PAUD Munatuan. This is a classroom action research that consists of 4 stages in each cycle, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Introducing the concept of color to children using puzzle learning media has been the focus of this research and the students of class B in PAUD Munatuan have been involved as research subjects. There have been 14 children selected to take part in this study. The data has been collected through observation and performance. The results of the data calculation show the following average scores: 43.55% for pre-cycle, 54.50% for the first cycle, and 83.8...

Patterns of variation in teaching the colour of light to Primary 3 students

Instructional Science, 2006

This paper shows how the patterns of variation created in the teaching were critical in helping a class of Primary 3 students in Hong Kong to learn about the colour of light, so that the students attained conceptual rather than procedural knowledge. A 'Learning Study' approach was adopted, which is a Lesson Study grounded in a particular learning theory to improve teaching and learning. This study, based on the learning theory of Variation advanced by Marton and Booth, was premised on three types of variation: variation in students' ways of experiencing what is to be taught/learnt (V1), variation in teachers' ways of dealing with the 'object of learning' (V2), and the use of 'pattern of variation' as a guiding principle of pedagogical design to enhance students' learning (V3). In planning the lesson, a conscious effort was made to create relevant patterns of variation, i.e. varying certain critical aspect(s) while keeping other aspects of the object of learning invariant in order to help students to discern those aspects. Comparison between the results of the pre-and post-test shows that there was significant gain in the students' learning outcomes with respect to the intended object of learning. The findings contribute knowledge to how the Theory of Variation can be used in practice. It also illustrates how teachers can make use of this theoretical framework to analyze their own teaching and thereby, develop an analytical awareness of teaching and learning.

The Effects of Colours on Preschoolers' Behaviour: An analysis of Colour-Mood Association on Preschoolers Aged 4 to 6

2008

Typically set up learning environments for preschoolers often end up, with just an interior that is only furnished with posters on walls, paste-up decorations, toys, and a typical furniture layout. In reality not much consideration or effort is put into the colour concept in the built environment. We should pay close attention to our children as users of the environment because they are in the process of developing physical, cognitive, social and emotional skills. Their interactions with the built environment can have profound effects on their later development in total. Studies have proven that children learn best when the task is challenging while at the same time maintaining low level pressure. Thus, it is vital to provide a cheerful and inviting environment to sustain the attention of our naturally extrovert preschoolers. Our environment is inevitability dominated by colours that help us to understand our surroundings better. Various studies have supported that colours affect us both psychologically and physiologically. Colours can induce sensory stimulation in our emotional realm and the whole of our being. In many occasions, designers lack the confidence and knowledge on how to apply colour to their built environment. The colourist, with very general understanding and views on colours, applies them into their environment, without much thought of the possible psychological associations. A monochromatic environment is regularly chosen and this has resulted in a mundane experience. The purpose of this study is to find out colour preferences among aged 4 to 6 preschoolers and how they relate each colouremotion associations with the specifically given characteristics. The subjects of this study will be an estimated total of 150 preschoolers from several preschools located on Penang Island. Spaces in the kindergartens i.e. the classrooms, playroom, art room, and restrooms will be analyzed on how effective the interior colour setting in each room aids the purpose of usage. Naturalistic observation and unstructured interview will be used for preschoolers while structured interview will be applied to education administration staffs and parents.

Bilingual Color Learning Application as Alternative Color Learning for Preschool Student

International Journal of Interactive Mobile Technologies (iJIM), 2022

Color recognition skills for early childhood are very important as a basis for starting other learning, by recognizing colors a child will get the benefits of creative development, development of sensory abilities and other positive benefits. Based on the results of observations that had been done in the kindergarten school that locate in Tangerang, Indonesia, it was found that most children were still often confused or had difficulty distinguishing colors through conventional teaching. In this research, a color recognition application was built in two languages, which aims to help students to recognize color faster. Testing will be carried out using the pretest and posttest methods with the "paired sample t test" method to measure the level of student development before and after using the application, user acceptance testing will also be carried out using UAT to measure the level of user acceptance of the application that had been made. From these evaluation, it was foun...
