In this study, researchers will examine students' problems in pronunciation errors in English and the causes of students' errors in English pronunciation. This study aims to determine the pronunciation errors and the causes of errors in pronunciation made by students in speaking English. This research is descriptive qualitative research that aims to describe students' pronunciation errors and the causes of students' pronunciation errors. The subjects of this study were second-semester students of the English language study program at the University of Bhinneka PGRI. :This study is conducted to find out the pronunciation errors made by the first semester students of English Education Department in STKIP CBN. In conducting the data, the researcher gave the pre-test to the informants, then; the researcher recorded the performances and transcribed the data. The secondary data was gathered from the interview. Based on the data analysis The researcher counted that there are nine types of errors pronunciation made by the subjects. The first error is the subjects substituted a vowel /æ/ and six consonants /kj/,/tʃ/,/ʃ/,/dʒ/ and /ʒ/ with Indonesian sounds. The second error is the subjects substituted some English vowels into Indonesian vowel. The third error is word cognates cases. The fourth is language interference. Pronunciation Problems: A Case Study on English Pronunciation Errors of Low Proficient Students INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Pronunciation plays a vital part in employability. Graduates are often unfairly judged when they fail to convince others of their capabilities due to poor pronunciation and not having the language to express themselves well. In order to present confidently to impress potential employers or enhance mobility, it is important to improve students' pronunciation, especially those with low oral proficiency level. The primary step to counter this matter is finding out students' problems in their pronunciation. The aim of this study is to identify the specific sounds that are commonly mispronounced by low oral proficiency Malaysian students. This study employed the qualitative methodology where data came in the form of reading aloud voice recordings. Based on the thematic analysis conducted, the sounds that were commonly mispronounced by the students were vowels (pure short vowels, pure long vowels and diphthongs), consonants (plosives, fricatives and affricates), silent letters, and the '-ed' form. From the findings, this study recommends the use of the commonly mispronounced sounds as the content in producing an instructional pronunciation video for helping low oral proficiency students of the 21st century to address their pronunciation problems.

Pronunciation Errors Among Malaysian Undergraduates in English for Oral Communication Course

In a country where there is a diverse range of races and cultures, the influence of the first language comes almost naturally when using English as a second language. This influence has created a negative transfer which has affected learners’ communicative competence as well as performance. This study intends to investigate the pronunciation errors among undergraduates in a Malaysian university and explain the mispronunciations by comparing the phonetic system of English and Malay It is hoped that the results of this study will eventually provide some insights to producing effective strategies for teaching pronunciation that can help ESL learners to improve their oral proficiency skills and thus meeting their personal and professional needs.

The aims of this research were to determine student’s problems in pronunciation, especially consonants, vowels, and diphthongs. The participants of this study were the second-semester students of the Indo Global Mandiri English Education Study Program. The researcher chose second-semester students because students had understood the phenomenon of pronunciation and they have taken IEC: Pronunciation courses. There were 23 students involved in this research. The data were collected by conducting direct meetings through a performance test that used three forms of tests such as pronounced 44 sentences, pronounced 31 minimal pairs, pronounced one passage with mixed sounds, and their voices made by the students were recorded by mobile phone.
