The implementation of lean in healthcare, particularly public and private hospitals can reduce processes and procedures such as patient information, waiting time, and processes of discharge. Moreover, lean practices can reduce waste and improve productivity based on the lean practices and techniques combined with continuous improvement. The aim of this study is to propose the relationship between the lean healthcare practices (LHP) and performance improvement measurement (PIM). LHP is expected to be suitable to their characteristics and improve their competitiveness, business performance, and achievement of business excellence operation in Malaysian healthcare industry. The researcher will propose three phase of research activities for this study. The first phase is the critical literature review. In the second phase, the research activities will focus on data collection. In this phase, the researcher will conducting validation case study. In the third phase, the research activities will be on data analysis. The input data would be analyzed using SPSS and SEM. healthcare improvement performance measurement has been in existence for many years, it seems that there is no consensus on the collective strategic set of measures used by companies. User friendly and systematic practice content are structured according to LHPI initiative, quality improvement effort, and performance improvement systems for continuous assessment to monitor and manage the level of quality service improvement and sustainable hospital performance.
Recently, Malaysia healthcare industry has been continuously vigilant about healthcare system. The increase the number of medical schools showed that Malaysia is serious about providing quality healthcare. Healthcare system is faced with challenges and opportunities from a rapidly changing operating environment, including increasing expectations on the quality of healthcare. Hence, this paper attempts to review and proposed structural relationship model of lean healthcare practices (LHP) and a healthcare performance. A structural relationship model using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) has been proposed. Based on the proposed conceptual model and reviewed, research hypotheses are being developed. Healthcare systems at an organizational level need to equip its people with tools that ensure continuous performance improvement to help sustain Universal Health Coverage (UHC). A large tertiary care public hospital in Oman (Royal Hospital [RH]), is sharing its experience in performance improvement using lean methodology. The RH introduced lean performance improvement to improve the efficiency of its administrative and clinical processes. This remarkable change was a cultural shift as it empowered clinical and non-clinical teams to improve the performance of the hospital operations continuously. Hospital leaders need to create opportunities for sustainable UHC at an organizational level. Introducing lean improvement methods at the hospital level leads to better problem definition and resolution. The people who do the work, need to improve the work, and eliminate waste in the processes as a day to day work style.
Lean Management Concept in Hospital Management – Possibilities and Limitations

With reference to the current situation of national public hospitals, the article presents the possibility to implement the Lean Management concept in hospital management. Numerous common features connecting the management of commercial entities with the management of healthcare institutions are indicated. It has been stated that the management of contemporary organizations, regardless of the type of conducted operations, needs to focus on customer/patient satisfaction, financial liquidity and high quality. The purpose of the article is to assess the possibility to implement the Lean Management concept in hospitals. In particular, an attempt was made on the basis of a pilot survey to assess the introduction of the above concept in two selected hospitals. Critical analysis of the literature on the subject, the analysis of research results of other authors, casual interview, observation of practice as well as a survey based on the prepared questionnaire were used to achieve the purpose.

Hospitals face challenges to improve efficiency in order to meet an increasing demand for high quality of care and low costs. Industry-based methods such as lean healthcare (LH) are implemented to improve healthcare systems. This study presents a LH implementation following the DMAIC approach (Define-Measure-Analysis-Improve-Control) in a Mexican public hospital, and contributes to the literature by analyzing the relation of waste reduction and sustainability. We focused on improving the medical supply chain from a temporary warehouse (TW) to the operating room (OR). Therefore, we analyzed the value stream including main surgical procedures and their related medical supplies, and identified different causes of inefficiency, which were evaluated and controlled. Lean hospital play a crucial role in the hospital service performance. It has been proved that implementing lean hospital management concept enhance the quality of hospital services. The purpose of this article is to investigate the waste and its causal factors. This paper is based upon a multi case study of lean hospital management practice of emergency unit in two generalhospital. Data collected by semi structured interview, document analysis andobservation. Value stream mapping is used to analyze hospital service process. Results of the analysis shows that waste identified on hospital services such as waiting times, defect in administrative services, inappropriate processes mainly due to lack coordination of officers, lack of thorough and administrative errors. Originality of this paper is analyzing thelean hospital management practice of integrated process of clinical and administrative process.

This study is to propose a conceptual framework that can be used to measure the relationship between the operational and sociotechnical aspects of lean healthcare practices and sustainability among Malaysia's private hospitals. Specifically, it investigates the mediating role of operational performance and the moderating role of safety climate.
