New concepts such as emotional intelligence have become more widely understood; more educators are realizing that cognitive ability is not the sole or critical determinant of young people’s aptitude to flourish in today’s society. Proficiency in emotional management, conflict resolution, communication and interpersonal skills is essential for children to develop inner self-security and become able to effectively deal with the pressure and obstacles that will inevitably arise in their lives. Objectives of this study were to study: (i) To study the emotional intelligence of school students. (ii) To compare emotional intelligence of male and female school students; (iii) To compare emotional intelligence of rural and urban school students. Sample of 800 secondary school students from four districts of Haryana were selected through random sampling method. Emotional Intelligence Inventory by Dr. S. K. Mangal and Mrs. Shubhra Mangal. The data was analysed by Product Moment Correlation and Z-test. The main findings are: (1) a significant difference was found in emotional intelligence of male and female school students. It is in favour of female students; (2) a significant difference was found in emotional intelligence of rural and urban school students. It is in favour of urban students.

Emotional intelligence is considered as an important ability for a well balance life. In human life, it has a great importance. It always helps people to manage their own emotion, aware about it as well as others too. The present study is an attempt to study about emotional intelligence of secondary school students of Kamrup (M) district. Here descriptive survey method is used. The population of this study consists of all the students studying in secondary school of Guwahati city of Kamrup (M) District. Out of these, 156 students have been selected from 4 secondary schools, where 78 numbers of girls and 78 numbers of boys are there. The study was conducted in N.M.V. Lalitpur (U.P.). The data were collected from 100 students. Emotional Intelligence Inventory (EII) by S. K. Mangul and ShubhraMangal (2005), and Test of General Intelligence (TGI) by K. S. Mishra and S. K. Pal (2005) were used to collect data. Data were analyzed by using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The main conclusion is that, the effect of rural urban and gender were found on emotional intelligence and intelligence quotient. Higher differences are found in between boys, girl's IQ and EQ.

The present study aims to analyse the emotional intelligence of adolescent students of senior secondary schools with respect to gender. This paper intends to present a general survey of emotional intelligence of adolescent Students of state of Haryana. For this purpose, 640 subjects (boys and girls) were selected randomly from senior secondary schools situated in four districts of state of Haryana. Data was collected and analysed by using mean, standard deviation and ‘t’ test. Emotional intelligence Scale developed and standardized by the investigator was used. The findings of the study indicated that there was no significant difference between boys and girls adolescent students regarding different dimensions of emotional intelligence.

Emotional Intelligence (EI) refers to one’s ability to recognize and understand emotions, manage and control emotions, harness emotions to get motivated and to take appropriate action, understand the feelings of others and build relationships and negotiate conflict. Emotional intelligence is considered as one of the important aspects in one’s life. In fact, it is believed that a person’s Emotional Quotient (EQ) may be more important than their Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and is certainly a better predictor of success, quality of relationships, and overall happiness. Emotional intelligence is also important in maintaining one’s physical health, mental wellbeing and good leadership. Therefore, the researcher has selected the present study. The objectives of the present study are to find out the levels of Emotional Intelligence of Higher Secondary School students of Sivasagar district of Assam and to compare the levels of Emotional Intelligence of (i) boys and girls students, (ii) the students of the Arts& Science streams and (iii) rural and urban higher secondary school students. The researchers selected a sample of 840 Higher Secondary school students from the Educational Institutions of Sivasagar district of Assam. For the present study Mangal Emotional Intelligence Inventory (MEII) developed and standardized by Dr.S.K.Mangal and Mrs Shubhra Mangal was selected and it was adapted by the researchers. It is found from the present study that the distribution of Emotional Intelligence scores of Higher Secondary school students of Sivasagar district of Assam is negatively skewed. There is no significant difference between mean MEII scores of boys and girls higher secondary school students. There is a significant difference between the Higher Secondary School students studying in Arts and Science stream as far as their Emotional Intelligence is concerned. There is no significant difference between the mean MEII scores of rural and urban Higher Secondary School students.

Emotional Intelligence can be defined as the ability to monitor one"s own and other people"s emotions, to discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior. Emotional Intelligence is correlated with different variables like socioeconomic status, adjustment and scholastic achievement. Emotional Intelligence is considered as one of the most important aspects in one"s life because it can help in maintaining SocioEconomic Status, developing Adjustment skills and achieving Scholastic Achievement in one"s life. The main focus of this study is to know the levels of SocioEconomic Status, Adjustment and Scholastic Achievement of Higher Secondary Students of Sivasagar District of Assam and find out the relationship between the variables. For the present study Mangal Emotional Intelligence Inventory(MEII) developed and standardized by Dr S.K.Mangal and Mrs Shubhra Mangal, Bell"s Adjustment Inventory(BAI) developed and standardized by Dr R.K.Ojha and SocioEconomic Status Scale(SESS) developed and standardized by Rajiv Lochan Bharadwaz were selected and adapted by the researcher herself. Emotional Intelligence of Higher Secondary Students is found to be negatively skewed in the present study and there no significant correlation is found between Emotional Intelligence of Higher Secondary Students and their SocioEconomic Status, Adjustment and Scholastic Achievement.

This paper aims to study the emotional intelligence of adolescent students in relation to their Gender and Locality. 200 senior secondary students were the sample of study and they selected through stratified random sampling method from senior secondary schools of Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh. For the collection of necessary information investigator used Emotional Intelligence Inventory-MEII by Dr. S.K. Mangal and Shubra Mangal. To find the significance of difference between the various groups ‘t’-test was applied. The results of this research inferred that secondary school students those studied in schools of urban locality in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh have better EI than the students of schools of rural areas but gender wise students do not differ significantly on emotional intelligence.

Many times it has been observed that, people with high I.Q. often failed to cope-up with the circumstances which had triggered the need of something else called “Emotional Intelligence” Success not just depends on I.Q. (intelligence quotient) but also on E.Q. (emotional quotient) E.Q. is the ability to understand nature and felling of others as well as own. Research has suggested that to be successful in life E.Q. is equal or even more important than I.Q. The study intended to identify E.Q. of students across Valsad District. The data was collected during Dec.12/Jan.13. For examination “Emotional Intelligence Test” developed by Dr. N.K. Chadha (1998) was applied. Data were analyzed by T-test in the emotional intelligence of male and female student. The result revealed that there is no significant difference in emotional intelligence of male and female category of students of Valsad District. (Rural)

The purpose of education of an individual is not limited to just garnering information but to prepare the individual for life. This includes developing ones social and emotional skills, such as emotional intelligence. Our present study is conducted on a sample of 100 students of the secondary level in the Sundarbans area of West Bengal, a delta acclaimed for its rich bio-diversity. Though a multitude of researches are conducted in this area, researches in the sector of education are very scarce. The scores of emotional intelligence in our study are self-rated. The regression analytic tool was used to analyze the data. An average correlation of 0.76 was found between the dependent and the independent variable. This denotes a strong positive correlation between academic achievement and emotional intelligence in the context of secondary level students in the Sundarbans area.
