A Separate Peace is, at it's deepest level, a fable about flawed human nature, which attempts to find in a personal act of betrayal a paradigm of the impulse to War. Gene and Finny, two sixteen-year-old roommates at a prep school in New England during World War II come to grips with the war, jealousy and betrayal.
