When he was 7 years old, his family immigrated to Toronto, Canada, where he learned to speak English and he took the English name Paul Ahn. He returned alone to South Korea when he was 17. Hyo-Seop graduated from Kookmin University, with a degree in International Business. He was discovered by JYP Entertainment where he was a music trainee and was offered to be in the Kpop group GOT7, he declined the offer.
