First half of 13th century. Novgorod prince Alexander is loved by people, but also has many adversaries. Batu Khan's huge army threatens to invade from the east. Sweden knights plan a Crusade against the Rus. The boyar opposition scheme an assassination of Alexander and the betrayal of the city. And above all else, prince's best friend Rathmir fell in love with his beautiful princess and now became a dangerous foe for Alexander. Prince is young, but life demands of him a warrior's valour, a diplomatic foresight, and a deep worldly wisdom.
