Norman is a hapless jeweller�s assistant secretly in love with the window-dresser who works across the road; Norman wishes to buy an expensive ruby pendant to express his love for her. Fortune beckons, however, when Norman has to go to shady bookmaker�s Weaver and Lumb and is given some advice on how to place a lucrative accumulator bet. He places �1 on a jockey to win all six of his races at Goodwood. The odds are one thousand to one.
