One of the most acclaimed television adaptations of a Broadway musical, the 1958 Hallmark Hall of Fame production of Cole Porter's KISS ME, KATE is a rare jewel from the "Golden Age of Television." The production features a stellar cast, including the two stars of the original 1948 Broadway production, Alfred Drake and Patricia Morison, as the feuding divorcees Fred Graham and Lilli Vanessi. The legendary actress and singer Julie Wilson portrays Lois Lane ("Bianca" in the play-within-a-play) opposite the charming Bill Hayes as Lois' boyfriend Bill. The principal cast is rounded out by the strong comic presences of Harvey Lembeck and Jack Klugman as the Two Gunmen. Part of the success of the production was due to two artists at work behind the scenes: the show's producer/director George Schaefer, and its musical director Franz Allers, who, in the course of their careers, earned eight Tony and Emmy awards between them.
