Paul Dedalus is a 29-year-old assistant professor of philosophy whose life is in stasis, from a dissertation he cannot (or will not) complete to a girlfriend he has dated for a decade, but with whom he is now disillusioned. He is also in love with Sylvia, the beautiful girlfriend of his friend Nathan. His complicated life twists again when a former friend turned cold rival is hired for a top position in his department at the university.
