Ambitious newsboy Slip Mahoney longs to be a sports writer and, with the encouragement of sports reporter Mark Morgan, decides that covering a big story will demonstrate his abilities. With his friend, photographer Sach, Slip investigates a tip on a crooked gambling scheme. The friends disguise themselves to get to gambler "Dapper" Dan Greco and unearth a story -- only to see a libel lawsuit declared, which threatens the paper.
