Paul Newman heads a star-studded international cast who turn in penetrating performances as survivors struggling to stay alive during the final ice age. They spend their last days playing a macabre kind of backgammon called "quintet," in which the loser of each game is killed by another player. Meanwhile, packs of wild dogs await their corpses, their only source of food in this brutal, unforgiving world. Filmed in wintery Montreal, QUINTET is perhaps Robert Altman's most stark and frightening film.
