After the Roman emperor dies, his selfish son Commodus claims the throne. His sadistic acts anger the oppressed barbarian slaves, who begin to plot an uprising. Commodus even envies Ursus, the greatest gladiator in all of Rome. After he is beaten by Ursus in the colosseum, he orders the gladiator killed. Realizing the emperor is truly mad, Ursus joins the barbarians and leads a rebellion against their wicked ruler.
