She took an acting course at the age of 15 at the Phillip Street Drama School, and following the completion of her high school certificate, she auditioned several roles and received guest spots in A Country Practice, Police Rescue and Wildside, before auditioning for the role of Carly Morris on the then-upcoming Seven Network soap opera Home and Away, and appeared in the role from the original pilot episode and the first four seasons (1988 to 1991). She also played the recurring role of Carly's twin sister, Samantha. Hodgson later returned as Carly for guest appearances in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2008. Hodgson has left acting and currently resides in the south coast of NSW and is married to Bruce, and their three children.
