After eighteen-year-old Lawrence is caught cheating on his final mathematics exam, his dreams of attending medical school are shattered, and he is sent to spend the summer with his eccentric uncle. A chance encounter introduces him to the charismatic con artist known only as "The Professor," who recruits Lawrence to join him and his sharp-witted daughter Sarah on a cross-country journey filled with elaborate scams, colorful characters, and valuable life lessons.
