While the films have little in common, �The Blackcoat�s Daughter� often reminded me of last year�s �It Follows.� Both pictures provide plenty of atmosphere, using a deliberate pace to conjure a sense of dread, taking their time to build mysteries and unnerve the audience. However, �The Blackcoat�s Daughter� demands more patience, with writer/director Oz Perkins working through his material inch by inch, laboring to squeeze as much stillness out of the movie as possible.
