In 1079 in the small Italian town of Aurocastro, 'Crociati' follows the adventures of three young men: Peter, the bastard son of a Christian woman and an Arab pirate, Andrew, a poor shepherd boy, and Richard, son of Baron William. The Baron, returning from the crusades, finds that the town has been misruled by Corrado, his brother. In the ensuing battle between William and Corrado, William is killed, and Richard decides to escape the situation by going to the crusades with the other two.
