Is life today easier and more comfortable than it was when our grandparents were children?
First of all, I think that the popular opinion would say yes: nowadays, life is easier than it was in early 20th. We can naturally think about the new technologies: mobile phones allow so many things like calling outside, searching information on the Internet, knowing the right road with a GPS, or even to entertain ourself with plays, music, videos, apps... Internet has this advantage of making life really more practical and convenient (but it has also inconveniens).
In daily life too: there are more and more utensils in the kitchen which make what we cook effortless and faster. All of this in this "consumer lifestyle" seems better, because a lot of things were improved for many decades.
But there's a price to pay: today, the world is in a climate disaster, threatened by this globalisation and pollution in the name of "easier, faster, cheaper". Life is more comfortable, but for whom? For westerners, largely.
From a psychological point of view, more and more problems appear: burn out, depression for example. I'm not sure, but people before seem to be more simple, they used to know how appreciate simple things and weren't overwhelming with stupid things like social media. We hear often that before, finding a job was not so complicated as today with diplomas, certificates, high school, string-pulling...
To come back to the "yes side", there is maybe a little progress in people's mind and in laws: I think about the women's place in the society, racism, Veganism... But this progress is certainly not enough, we still have to fight for a fairer world and society.
