So you think you can stamp?May 1, 2012Stamp Guide Hello Everybody and welcome to my Stamp making guide. You may be wondering, why is TheSaltyMonster (https://www.deviantart.com/thesaltymonster) making a stamp guide? Well the answer is because a lot of people have been asking me how I make my stamps, and how to get started. So here it goes, and pardon the journal title. :la: Please also check out the stamp feature towards the end of the journal :) If you use any of the resources I have included in this journal, make sure to credit the original artist in your deviation description :dummy: How to get started.. Well, first things come first: What do you want to make a stamp about? Is it dA related, is it of your favoriTutorial, Resources
LiteratureEraseI wish I could erase myself ‘cause when I make mistakes, I don’t seem to endure it well. Another line drawn out of place, another smudge across the face. There is so much I wish I could change, so little I’d keep the same if only I could just erase myself.Literature
In Memory of LadesireOct 24, 2024I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of our dear friend and community member, Olga, known to many as . Olga was a beloved part of the DeviantArt community for over 11 years, recently receiving the Deviousness Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the site and its members. As an artist, Olga's talent shone brightly through her dramatic and captivating photomanipulations. She brought life to every piece she created, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of her surroundings in Norway. But more than her art, it was Olga’s generosity, kindness, and unwavering support for others that made her truly remarkable. Olga’s passion extended beyond her own work—she was a devoted leader, running multiple groups and tirelessly promoting the art of others through her feature journals. She was a constant source of encouragement, always there to offer kind words, badges, and constructive feedback to artists of all skill levels. Her dedication to helping others was soJournals, News

LiteratureThe Ways of RipeningIn her youth she fancied herself having an overflowing garden full of tomatoes and potatoes and peppers. Those dreams faded, however, as she swelled like a pumpkin, giving birth to a girl with verdant hair and citrus skin. She didn’t know how to care for a living being—it was hard not to be a perennial and fast learner; any misstep could be the last with no one to tell her the ways of the world, the ways of ripening. In the first month, she cursed herself for all she did not know; she’d done such a poor job with her own soil, she had to promise her daughter more: one day she would send her off into the world to know and to have all that she didn’t. Every season her motherhood was ripe with newness; the child grew in vibrancy: plump orange cheeks competed with winter jasmine amidst icy frost; evergreen smile immutable as she careened through the hollyhock and daffodils of spring; legs sprawled as she leapt through the coreopsis and basil of summer; hands outstretched to pluckThe Immutability Prose Contest
LiteratureThe Bird Feeder I should have known the bird feeder was a mistake. How could I be so heartless as to think that? How indeed. A huge rhododendron bush grows across the street from my house. It’s actually a multistory apartment complex for sparrows, containing at least twelve nests. In the spring the little feathered rodents wake up the entire neighborhood with their infernal squabbling. One cold autumn day in a fit of compassion, I decided to attach a bird feeder to the railing of my front porch. My first mistake. But who wants to watch sparrows shiver and starve to death in the snow? You don’t get to vote, cat. I fed the little bThe Hilarity Prose Contest

LiteratureReftia's DevoteeWhen I first came to the temple of Reftia, the patron goddess of the military, the priests were kind. They recognized a lonely soldier, sent home because of my wounds. In recent times, many like me had come. I had lost my left leg from the knee down, but I had a crutch, and I had no doubt Reftia had preserved my life. Back then, the temple overflowed with visitors. I got a room at the inn and came to services every day. Others would flock in with me, veterans and relatives of soldiers. We sacrificed oxen and chanted odes of praise for Reftia's blessings, and supplication for those still at war. They called me a hero back then, seeing my mThe Deity Prose Contest
LiteratureNicheNiche The hubbub of the street was white noise. The close, but distant thrum of life was ever present, it was the mummer of everyday going-ons'. The cafe was never terribly busy, and the street it was on was never heavily trafficked. Elsa never would have found the small coffee shop it was by pure chance that she came upon it. Chance, and a phone call from her girlfriend. Her former partner was going on a trip out of the country. The other woman had explained that their life would have to be put on pause- she'd only be gone for a year, her friend had said. The call came with no prior warning. Feature and feedback challenge!Apr 16, 2016As part of a projecteducate (https://www.deviantart.com/projecteducate) event. Comment + Feature Challenge The deadline is today so I'm not sure if my entry will count, but who cares?! It's high time I featured some of the amazing art I've discovered anyway! It has been too long since I looked at your art. I have missed it so I'm going to feature this for a few reasons. I love the shades of green you used in this because they look so fresh and fertile and I can easily imagine the seladang growing out of the land itself. Which leads on to the next lovely thing about it; the muscle structure. Your shading brings out all the bulges and valleys in its body and it looks immensely powerfuComment + Feature Challenge
