LiteratureTAB - New Life, New Railway (1/8)The Adventure Begins Inspired by the movie by Andrew Brenner Adaptation by me Thomas is a tank engine who lives at a place called 'Brighton' on the Mainland with his brothers and sisters. But one day in 1915, that all changed when he was to be sent to a new workplace in a factory. However, while Thomas and one of his brothers, Thompson, who was being sent to an island called 'Sodor', were waiting to be loaded onto their respective ships that would take them to their new workplaces, there came a problem. You see, because the two engines were the same design, despite them having different numbers, the dockworkers accidently loaded them onto the wrong ships! Thompson was now being sent to the factory and Thomas was now being sent to Sodor! And by the time the dockworkers realized their mistake, it was too late. The two ships had steamed out to sea. When Thomas' ship docked and Thomas was unloaded, he found himself being greeted by two smartly-dressed men and several engines. "ExcuseThe Adventure Begins NTBGWR Version

LiteratureDisney's Oliver and Company (1988) - ReviewSince it’s set in what was once contemporary Manhattan, “Oliver And Company” is very much an 80’s movie. So totally 80’s from top to bottom – with grit, rock and roll, implacable villains, and edgy bad-boys with hidden hearts of gold. So it’s a good thing I’ve always had a soft spot for the 80’s and some 80’s cheese. This movie is a loose adaptation of Oliver Twist but with talking animals. Something I always enjoy about this film is how it gets increasingly crazy the more it progresses. It starts off simple enough, with a sad, lonely kitten looking to find a home, and then he meets the Artful Dodger, which sets off a long chain reaction of events that ultimately leads to one misfit cat, five street dogs, one terrified hobo, one kidnapped rich girl and one pampered poodle being chased down railroad tracks on a motorbike by a bats**t crazy mob boss and his goon dogs, until said mob boss gets himself obliterated by a freight train. This has been on my mind for a while, and I decided to tackle things head on after a discussion with my friend @TrainsAndCartoons . It basically is a way for Zack and I to explain why the engines are behaving the way they are in the Brenner era. Now, the easy way to do this is to rewrite the entire Brenner era from scratch and be all "well, this is the way everyone should be behaving". But... I think it's more fun to work with what we already have. It does add extra layers to these characters. So let's get started. Thomas the Tank Engine Being a rising star in the eyes of children is a bit of a double edged sword for the blue tank engine. He loves getting attention; after all, it bolstered business on his branch line, and more passengers means more time with his dear sisterly figures Annie and Clarabel. However... he is very annoyed at the fact that the children's books gets certain things wrong: (looking at Down the Mine and Thomas Comes To Breakfast in particular). On particularlyTheories

In my head-canon on Oliver, he was on the run from the cutters torch for 2 years because the real life 14xx auto tank engine numbered 1436 was scrapped in the year 1965 and Oliver was on the run from scrap for 2 whole years. Credit goes to CandlesJ6 for this idea. It's from this picture:Headcanons

LiteratureTGRS: Some Exciting News (1/10)The Great Railway Show Based upon “The Great Race” by Andrew Brenner Adapted by Zack Wanzer, James Riddle and Rachel Ravens Additional material by Cameron Stevens and Matt St. Onge Dawn was breaking across the Island of Sodor. All seemed quiet at Tidmouth sheds, until… “GOOD MORNING, SODOR!” The other engines groaned at being rudely awoken. “Ohhh, Gordon! What’s the big idea?!” “Sorry, little James, but today is going to be a big one for me. I shall be setting a new record for the express from Knapford to Vicarstown!” “And what makes you so sure you’ll do it today?” asked Emily. “Because Flying Scotsman will be coming with a railtour,” Gordon explained. “I’ve got to make a good impression on my brother.” “Well, best of luck with that,” said Percy. “Just watch out for strong winds on the viaduct.” The others all burst out laughing; Gordon just groaned as left the sheds for Knapford station. * * * Gordon stood at platform one, waiting for one of the shunting engines toThe Great Railway Show

For Everything2004 - Gordon's Final MomentsFor Me

I just realised something. Diesel becoming Duck's successor in the yards is sort of... poetic when you think about it. Especially when you consider Diesel's first outing. In Duck and the Diesel Engine, Diesel was trying to get Duck sent away. This was for completely selfish and petty reasons, and he would have been the sole pilot at Tidmouth... until such time when Sir Topham Hatt found out the truth. However... where did Duck go? Wellsworth, Edward's branch line. Duck was running on Edward's branch line for the duration of A Close Shave. Almost a decade later in-universe, Duck goes to the Little Western. Except... there is no confirmed station pilot that takes his place. But the SeventyVerse and Sodor the Early/Modern Years does answer this question: Diesel takes up the mantel. In this case, Diesel isn't lying about Duck, he's simply stepping up to the plate because Duck was promoted to a branch line. In short: Duck was sent to a branch line because of Diesel, and now, Diesel isRealizations
