Description

DL&W MUs were designed to operate in 'married pairs' with one car powered via pantograph coupled to a trailer, with an operator's cab at the ends of each set. Up to six sets could be operated in one train, with one set being the usual consist on the Gladstone branch during off-peak hours until decreasing reliability due to age led NJ Transit to begin running them in four-car sets as routine. Here, a two-car set runs as train#411 at Gillette, New Jersey on 1/18/84 in snowy weather.

This is one of my early photos, taken with an instamatic and scanned to a cd before posting. It's not very sharp, I hope my watchers do not mind too much this glimpse into railroad history.
