Dr. Seuss Adaptations | How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
Synopsis
Inside a snowflake, high atop Mt. Crumpit, just north of town, a certain cave-dwelling curmudgeon peers down on the Christmas-adoring Whos of Whoville as they make their frantic Yuletide preparation. And this isn't your run-of-the-mill sourpuss. This is the Grinch (Jim Carey), and he is positively sick of those nog-sucking cheermongers. Why is the Grinch - well - so Grinchy? Nobody knows, not even his lone companion, the endlessly oppressed canine, Max. It could be because his head wasn't screwed on just right ; or maybe his shoes were too tight; or maybe because his heart was two sizes too small. With an expression that goes from glum to glummer and then to a malevolent lip-curling grin as a wicked light bulb clicks over his head - a wonderful, awful idea is born. Christmas is back and the Grinch plans to do something about this annoyingly happy holiday once and for all. Based on the Dr. Seuss classic cartoon and narrated by Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Critics' reviews
- "With Carrey hitting a career peak, this Grinch doesn't steal Christmas; it restores the season by helping energize us enough to make it through the whole thing."
- "Entrancingly lurid live-action fantasy."
- "The dullest, clunkiest, big-budget fantasy since Steven Spielberg flattened Peter Pan in 'Hook.'"
- "Not likely to become any landmark achievement, yet it's sure to earn a berth among the perennial Christmas film classics."
- "The real surprise here is how affecting he makes the Grinch's ultimate big hearted turnaround, as Carrey the actor sneaks up on Carrey the wild man dervish. In whichever mode, he carreys the movie."
