Synopsis

The very soul of California seems freshly up for grabs in TO PARSIFAL, one of experimental filmmaker Bruce Baillie’s early masterpieces. We begin at sea, bobbing under seagulls and sky to the noble strains of Richard Wagoner’s opera "Parsifal." The Bay Bridge passes overhead, pointing the way towards a starling landscape of rock and grass. The Southern Pacific railroad summons man-made grandeur though this industrial muscle exists on the same plane as insects and the magnificently clear sierra sunlight in Baillie’s mythopoetic vision. No grail is as holy as its mystery for this modern-day knight errant with a camera.
