Synopsis
TV Series (2008-2012). 5 Seasons. 75 Episodes. Inspired by the real-life Emergency Task Force of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Flashpoint chronicles the efforts of the Strategic Response Unit (SRU), an elite and highly skilled group of cops charged with rescuing hostages, defusing bombs and breaking up gangs. The series title refers to the psychological aspect of the job, which is also the focus of the show: getting inside a suspect's head and discovering the emotional "flashpoint" that triggered the crisis in the first place, with the hope of diffusing the situation safely and using force only as a last resort.
The team exists of Sgt. Gregory Parker (Enrico Colantoni), the field leader of the team. Further in the team are Ed Lane (Hugh Dillon), Julianna "Jules" Callaghan (Amy Jo Johnson), Sam Braddock (David Paetkau), who is the new guy on the team. Then there are Lou "Lewis" Young (Mark Taylor), Mike 'Spike' Scarlatti (Sergio Di Zio), Kevin 'Wordy' Wordsworth (Michael Cram). Also there is Dr. Amanda Luria (Ruth Marshall), she helps the team with there missions but is not a member of the team. This are the men and women in the Strategic Response Unit who make Toronto safe.

Critics' reviews
- "Though the characters on this show, premiering Friday on CBS, are relatable and watchable, the slow pace might prove to be too much of a cultural divide for an American audience"
- "To be sure, 'Flashpoint' is a perfectly competent police procedural right down to its convincing weaponry and tactics. However, based on the pilot, it isn't particularly fresh or inventive."
- "It's more nuanced than the average cop drama, and for that reason, more intriguing."
- "If you can ignore stuff like the impossibly clean subways and the fact that the cops call one another 'constable' with straight faces, Flashpoint is actually rather formulaic."
- "It goes through the motions quite competently and respectably. But it is nonetheless merely re-creating crime-series moves we've all seen many times before, with only the faintest afterimage of originality."
