AltaMed is one of the nation’s largest community health networks. For more than 45 years, we have provided care to patients in the diverse neighborhoods of Los Angeles and Orange counties. Their choices shape our ability to provide, and our patients’ ability to receive, quality care. As physicians, we witness firsthand the effects of healthcare policies: disparities in access, underfunded programs, and the direct connection between policy and patient wellbeing. When we vote and encourage our patients and communities to vote, we’re actively shaping a system that supports healthier communities. In a time where many states throughout the country attempt to limit access to polls, I am proud to work for an organization like AltaMed Health Services that believes in the promise that democracy works best when more people participate in it. Today, we had the opportunity to highlight our partnership with LA County Registrar and the Latino Community Foundation to make voting more accessible for our over half a million patients, our over 5,200 employees, and communities surrounding our clinics. The communities we serve are often the most under-resourced, under-reached, and disenfranchised communities in the country, yet are the most impacted by policies and policy makers that make decisions for them, about them, but without them. Hence, by way of the over 19 Flex voting locations hosted by AltaMed this election cycle, we are opening up the democratic process to EVERYONE.
