Chesterfield County is a local government adjacent to Richmond, VA with a population of approximately 350,000, encompassing 436 square miles. We provide a wide range of award winning municipal programs and services including public safety, health and welfare, parks and recreation, cultural activities, community development, water and wastewater services, and public health. Programs and services are delivered in a variety of ways - in person, on-line, by telephone and mail, via print and electronic media, as well as physical facilities (parks, libraries, airport, etc.) through a diverse and talented workforce. ❤️ Jelly Roll came and visited Chesterfield County Jail's HARP program a couple weeks ago and it received an overwhelming response across media channels and social media platforms. 🎵 Last week, Unlocking Harmony, a songwriting duo, came to work with these same men of the HARP program to share their stories through the transformative process of songwriting. We heard from men who shared their stories that inspired the lyrics they wrote together. 🎶 What's happening in the jail here is palpable; real people's lives are being changed and that's why it's receiving such an overwhelming response. If you don't have a way to get to work, you know the barriers of transportation better than anyone. Maybe the bus line doesn't reach your home. Maybe you live in a one car home and you can't use it when you need to. Maybe you can't afford fixing the transportation that you have. Ways to Work, a program through HumanKind in partnership with our Community Enhancement Department, works with eligible people to build their credit with fair-interest car loans while simultaneously receiving assistance to achieve self-sufficiency. Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes to make Election Day run smoothly? Yesterday, Chesterfield's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) opened at 5 a.m., bringing together representatives from multiple departments to support all 79 voting precincts. This teamwork allowed us to respond quickly to any needs or issues that arose, ensuring a smooth, efficient Election Day for our voters.
