A message from our CEO Natasha Trivers about the 2024 election. - Democracy Prep Public Schools reposted this
Chief Executive Officer at Democracy Prep Public Schools

It’s Election Day! And I am proud to say at Democracy Prep Public Schools, we’re closed so our community can vote and make their voices heard. 100% of eligible voters in our student body are registered to vote. Many staff and students are taking elderly family members to the polls. We are doing our civic duty and building on a rich legacy of every day citizens who have changed the world! Rashid Duroseau #civics #GOTV #ElectionDay2024 - "As we head into the 2024 election, one of the most crucial moments in our democracy, our responsibility as school leaders is to foster environments of openness, respect, and civic engagement," Democracy Prep Public Schools CEO Natasha Trivers writes in a new essay published by Seminar, a network of charter experts. In the essay, Natasha highlights lessons she learned from a workshop she recently co-hosted. “We shared the same challenges—how to maintain non-partisan, inclusive communication in a time that’s often polarizing,” she writes. As school leaders navigate the election, she hopes that they can serve as pillars of strength for our communities. “Let’s continue fostering open dialogue, supporting one another, and reminding our communities of the importance of civic engagement, not just in elections, but in every aspect of our democratic society.” To read the full essay, send us a message and we’ll share it with you! #elections #civics #charterschools #gotv

Our Democracy Prep scholars have been diving into election season with a range of exciting, hands-on learning experiences! From student council campaigns to casting their ballots in mock elections, they’re actively building skills to make informed choices that shape the kinds of communities they want to live in. Yesterday, more than 260 students at our Texas campus engaged in an advisory lesson where they used a nonpartisan voter guide to compare the candidates' stances on key issues. They also completed their mock voter registrations. Today, their library transformed into a student-run poll site where students cast their ballots for their preferred candidates as student council members served selection officials. #civics #education #charterschools - Our CEO, Natasha Trivers, is grateful to the team of fellow education leaders that she worked with to develop a new digital tool for school districts to develop AI strategies. More than 60 districts have already expressed interest in the tool, called LearnKit.ai. Natasha worked with Dr. Leslie Torres Rodriguez, Superintendent at Hartford Public Schools; Cameron Fadjo, former Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services, Pleasantville Union Free School District; and Tommy Welch, Superintendent (K-12), of Boston Public Schools. The work was done through the Google GSV Fellowship (ASU+GSV Summit). - New tech can be scary, and that's especially the case for disruptive artificial intelligence tools. But educational leaders should approach these innovations with curiosity and openness, even when they seem daunting. The key is to have a growth mindset and to actively engage with emerging technology. Democracy Prep Public Schools CEO Natasha Trivers worked with a team of fellow education leaders through the ASU+GSV Summit fellowship to develop a new AI tool for districts called LearnKit.ai. Among the team’s key takeaways was a growth mindset. By adopting a learning stance and actively engaging with emerging tools, leaders can unlock transformative opportunities for both their students and educators. They also learned it was critical to engage peers across different districts, which can lead to more robust and widely applicable solutions. Successful integration of AI in education also requires buy-in from various stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, students, and even board members.
