Burrowing Owl Mitigation in action! 🦉 What We Did ▶️ HRS has been working on burrowing owl mitigation, including constructing 36 man-made burrows on a project in San Diego County. Why We Did It ▶️ Now that the burrowing owl is a candidate species for listing as threatened or endangered under the California Endangered Species Act, projects are required to implement mitigation measures to protect the species. How We Did It ▶️ Our experts use their knowledge of the species and understanding of current regulations to determine the appropriate mitigation measures for each project. ▶️ Then, they consider factors such as the availability of foraging habitat and distance from development that might impact burrow site suitability, to determine the best burrow location. ▶️ Finally, staff construct artificial burrows where the owls can nest, preventing impacts to the species. ❓Has your project considered impacts to burrowing owl? Learn more about the burrowing owl's candidacy listing and what may be required for your project: https://lnkd.in/dmbsmY6m #DudekAtWork #BUOW #Biology #HabitatMitigation - Welcome, Andrei Bacila! 🎉 Andrei joins Dudek as a Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Manager. 🌧️ Enhancing storm resilience by streamlining stormwater channel maintenance We're proud to have collaborated with the City of San Diego and Assemblymember Alvarez on Assembly Bill 3227, which aims to streamline routine stormwater channel maintenance. By reducing red tape, AB 3227 empowers local governments to act swiftly, protecting communities and infrastructure before the next storm strikes. Current Challenges: ⌚Stormwater channel maintenance is crucial for flood prevention but securing environmental permits and approvals can often take 1-2 years. AB 3227 enhances stormwater preparedness by: ✅ Expediting maintenance by removing administrative delays tied to CEQA. ✅ Focusing on concrete channels and those with less than 100-year storm capacity to ensure readiness for severe weather. 📜Learn more about AB 3227: https://lnkd.in/gPRwgya4 - In response to the devastating wildfires in Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and nearby communities, Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed an executive order to temporarily ease requirements under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the California Coastal Act in order to help affected residents rebuild faster. What does this mean? 🏡 Faster Rebuilding: Streamlined permitting and environmental reviews could save years for homeowners looking to restore their properties. 📄 Expedited Processes: The Executive Order aims to have all approvals issued within 30 days, speeding up recovery for fire victims. 🌿 Maintaining Environmental Standards: While some regulations are eased, California remains committed to environmental stewardship. This is a significant step toward helping wildfire survivors return to their homes and communities, while also addressing long-standing challenges with permitting delays. 📖 Read the full LA Times article for more details: https://lnkd.in/genn8BJU #CaliforniaWildfires #LosAngeles #CEQA

All aboard the world's longest light rail line! 🚄 The Foothill Gold Line extension (recently renamed the A Line) has reached substantial completion and is one step closer to bringing better connections to transit riders across Los Angeles County! This project extended the LA Metro A Line by 4 stops and aims to welcome riders later this year. We worked with Kiewit-Parsons to provide construction compliance environmental monitoring services for the project's most environmentally sensitive areas. Project Facts: 🛤️Extends the A line to a total of over 57 miles (the world's largest light rail line!) stretching from Long Beach to Pomona. 🚉 Includes four new stations in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, and Pomona 🎯Completed on time and on budget Read more about how the A Line will increase connectivity in one of the most heavily used transit corridors in Eastern Los Angeles County: ➡️https://lnkd.in/gPTSuf_R -

The Tijuana River trash boom is now in action! 📸 What's a trash boom you ask? It's a floating barrier that spans a waterway to capture trash and debris, improving the water quality and health of the ecosystem. This trash boom spans the Tijuana River and will control the flow of floating debris and trash originating in Mexico during stormwater flows. The project is the result of coordination among multiple agencies and NGOs and was made possible by a $4.7 million investment by the State Water Resources Control Board. 💧🏞️ Dudek is proud to have supported this project with a broad range of environmental services during the planning phase. Now that the trash boom is installed, our hydrology experts will perform monitoring and reporting to ensure the effectiveness of the trash boom system and make improvements if needed to protect sensitive ecosystems. Watershed Sciences Practice Director and Project Manager Vipul Joshi said, "Our hope is that the project will be effective in limiting the discharge of floating trash into the Tijuana Estuary and Pacific Ocean thereby protecting plants and wildlife from the harmful effects of plastics and other pollutants." We look forward to continuing our work with our clients to address the challenges facing the Tijuana River and maintaining the health of the watershed. 🤝#DudekAtWork #DuMore
