Innovative Solutions to Address the Growing Global Demand for Lithium at the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) Congress. As the world seeks to power devices from smartphones to electric vehicles with lithium-ion batteries, global demand for lithium is expected to increase to nearly 500% of 2018 levels by 2050, according to the World Bank. It is projected that more than 1 million tons of Lithium Carbonate Equivalent (LCE) will be demanded by 2025, whereas only 900 ktons of LCE are projected by the global current supply capabilities. Anglian Water Services triple carbon reduction demonstration plant at its water recycling center in Cambridge, UK. This plant is designed to shrink the carbon footprint of wastewater treatment by reducing energy consumption, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and providing a source of green hydrogen. In addition to using OxyMem™ MABR modules from DuPont to reduce wastewater treatment energy requirements, the project hopes to validate that bubble-less MABR can almost eliminate harmful N2O emissions and explore whether adding oxygen (captured as a byproduct from the hydrogen-producing electrolyzers) to the membranes can further increase biological treatment capacity. Working with ChildFund Kenya and Davis & Shirtliff, we are broadening access to water in two Kenyan communities. Despite microbial and chemical contamination, 7,500 residents in Nyagina Beach had relied on heavily polluted water from Lake Victoria. Now, thanks to the donated DuPont™ Ultrafiltration modules, we are helping supply a robust source of clean, safe water to the communities, improving the daily lives and future opportunities of thousands of people. Our team participated in the Fenasan event, celebrating its partnership with Kemia to help improve the quality of water sources for the Joinville community. At the Fenasan event, we presented a recognition plaque to Kemia, one of our partners, for using the MemPulse™ MBR system in a sewage treatment plant. This system will allow the disposal of effluents and significantly improve the quality of the water sources in the Joinville community. Congratulations to all Kemia and DuPont professionals who were involved in this important milestone.

Last week, DuPont™ Tedlar®, Nomex® Electrical Infrastructure, DuPont Interconnect Solutions, and our team participated at the 2024 Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe. This event is the world’s largest trade fair for hydrogen technologies, materials, components, and engineering solutions. At the expo, they addressed various challenges related to wear, friction, corrosion, and sealing across the entire hydrogen value chain. During a panel discussion on Water Requirements and Management for Hydrogen Production Projects, Marc Slagt analyzed the water requirements for different low-carbon hydrogen production methods. In addition to Marc, our team was represented by Thomas Bittinger and Noel Carr, MBA.
