We’re thrilled about the growth of The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University! As we prepare to celebrate the upcoming groundbreaking, we’re also proud to reflect on the legacy of high-quality medical education here in the East.
On March 30, 1979, East Carolina University leaders broke ground on a seven-story medical school facility. Happily, we’ve outgrown our charter. Thursday, we break ground again.

For the 12th year, the Eastern Carolina Injury Prevention Program received grant funding from the Governor’s Highway Safety Program to run the Teen Safe Driving Program at ECU Health. The grant program promotes highway safety and addresses behavioral approaches to traffic safety, and the Teen Safe Driving Program focuses on vulnerable road users—in this case, teenage drivers. Dr. Walter “Skip” Robey recently retired as the director of The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University medical simulation program, leaving a legacy of innovation and training in a program he helped build.
