About us
Our mission in Fargo Public School is to educate and empower all students to succeed. This means focusing on the needs of all students and collectively working to ensure that we provide opportunities for every child to pursue their goals and dreams and to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to achieve those goals. To ensure that our schools are committed to excellence through a student-centered learning environment supported by positive collaborations with students, staff, parents, school, and community, we provide students with a broad knowledge base by engaging in a standards-based curriculum with co-curricular opportunities. The Fargo Public Schools Strategic Plan is designed to create the experiences we want for children in our progressive and fast paced community of Fargo. FPS keeps pace with the economic growth and also the diversity of cultures that now is part of the area communities. We take pride in the commitment all 3,200 staff members show students every day. - Congratulations to South High School Assistant Principal Dr. Shannon Mortrud on being named the Region VI Assistant Principal of the Year! With the award, Mortrud will now be considered for the North Dakota Assistant Principal of the Year Award.
- Congratulations to Explorer Academy Teacher Tyler Hetland on being named the ND Shape Adapted Teacher of the Year for 2024! Explorer Academy staff and students, along with Hetland’s wife Amanda and daughter Teagan, surprised him with a celebration of his accomplishments during an all school assembly in late October. - AASA, The School Superintendents Association, released a powerful transition memo outlining key recommendations for the next administration. This memo, written with the next federal administration in mind, offers a blueprint for strengthening public schools and improving outcomes for the 50 million students they serve across the country. As we reflect on these recommendations, we must consider their implications for Fargo Public Schools and our ongoing efforts to champion public education. - Congratulations to Julie M. Anderson, a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments, on being awarded the Riki Nitz Worker of the Year Award by the Dakotas Chapter for the Association for the Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired. The Riki Nitz Worker of the Year Award is presented each year to an individual for their work with those who are blind and visually impaired.
- Congratulations to Explorer Academy Middle School Special Education Teacher Melissa Uetz on being appointed to the National Constitution Center Teacher Advisory Council for the 2024-25 school year! The National Constitution Center Teacher Advisory Council is a professional learning community of educators who collaborate with the Center to share best practices for teaching constitutional and civic topics. Through a lens at the intersection of U.S. history and current events, the Teacher Advisory Council advises the Center on programs and resources that would best support classroom instruction on constitutional fundamentals across the United States.
- Congratulations to Fargo Public Schools' 2024-25 Seesaw Ambassadors! The Ambassadors are leaders for their schools in the use of Seesaw. They take additional training, provide peer support, create lessons that are moving toward using technology in a transformational way and share great lessons with their colleagues.
