Everyone deserves the opportunity to live with health, well-being and dignity. Yet barriers rooted in racism prevent too many from living a healthy life – from housing to working conditions, from food insecurity to environmental factors, and from wages to the health care system itself. We know it will take collective action to change this. Together with our partners, we’re tackling the complex work across sectors and industries to remove barriers, center power within communities, and build a world where racial health equity is the standard.

To Our Community, A week out from the presidential election, we understand everyone may still be processing a mix of emotions. Knowing how the candidates campaigned on health issues and policies, many advocates for racial health equity are justifiably worried about what lies ahead for our most under-resourced and marginalized communities. We have all been fighting for health equity long before this election. We know that eradicating structural racism (and every other -ism) is the work of generations. We are, and always have been, focused on the long game, while meeting immediate resource needs. For us, the election outcome has only strengthened our resolve to advance our mission, vision and values, in support of the right to health, well-being and dignity - for every person, in every community. In the coming years, our commitments will remain the same. We will continue to advocate, in partnership, for the policies, funding, workforces and structures for our communities to be healthy. We will continue to strengthen and build our big tent for anyone who wants to work together on near-term challenges and fight for greater systemic change. And we need you in it. We want to know how you’re doing, and what you might need. We’ll continue to share resources and explore even more ways to stay connected in our collective work. We’re especially grateful for our funders and donors in this challenging fundraising year and very excited about the initiatives we have the support to continue in 2025. And yet, we still have a $600,000 gap we need to close by December 31st to sustain some of our existing programs. Join me for a webinar hosted by the Health Equity Community Collaborative with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. as we discuss the current legal landscape for #healthequity programming. For me, achieving health equity (all communities having a genuine opportunity to thrive) requires sustainable changes to policies and practices that create authentic health opportunity for all communities, especially communities made marginalized. Yet in recent years, opponents of civil rights have brought legal challenges to policies and programs seeking to reduce inequities in education, employment, and other sectors. Health equity programs have also been targeted. For those who work in racial health equity, it is critical to understand the current risks and protections available to the important programs and services in our communities.
