Helping People Help Themselves Since 1917
About us
The LJD Jewish Family & Community Services (JFCS) has been a vital part of the Jacksonville Community for over 100 year, lending a helping hand to people from all walks of life. JFCS was founded in 1917 as United Jewish Charities, and was known for assisting people in need with food and emergency shelter. The Agency is a charter member of United Way, having joined the organization when it was established in 1924 as the Community Chest. In 1949, we became the only licensed Jewish child-placing agency in the country, placing our first child for adoption in 1951. In 2001, JFCS collaborated with the Boys Home Association to form Family Support Services of North Florida, Inc., the lead agency for the administration of child protection services in Duval & Nassau Counties. In 2003, JFCS began providing a range of community-based child protection services. In 2005, we achieved national accreditation through the Council on Accreditation for Children & Family Services. JFCS is committed to the mission of “helping people help themselves” and serves all persons in a non-discriminatory manner.

- We would like to thank the Red Coats, a dedicated group of volunteers from THE PLAYERS Championship, who came out to our Backpack Bonanza last week. They prepared 365 backpacks full of school supplies for the children we serve and, along with their generous donation which purchased the supplies, they made this year's effort the largest and most successful yet! - Tune in this Sunday at 9 a.m. on WJXT- News4Jax for an insightful look at the state of mental health in Northeast Florida, featuring JFCS CEO Colleen Rodriguez. In 2014, a comprehensive report identified issues in our community's approach to mental health care, highlighting stigma, lack of professionals, and underfunding. Now, on the 10th anniversary of the report, join us on WJXT TV-4’s This Week in Jacksonville with Kent Justice to explore what's changed. Featuring Dr. Christine Cauffield from LSF Health Systems, Lynn Sherman from The City of Jacksonville, and Colleen Rodriguez of The LJD Jewish Family & Community Services.
- We are excited to announce the Jacksonville Eviction Diversion Collaborative: a game-changing partnership between the City of Jacksonville, United Way of Northeast Florida, Duval County Court System, Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Inc., and JFCS - The LJD Jewish Family & Community Services. This program offers timely rental and utility assistance, along with vital case management support, to help families remain housed and navigate eviction court proceedings efficiently. Identified cases are fast-tracked so that families can be connected to critical JFCS and community resources to help avoid eviction and keep families together. Thank you to everyone involved for their dedication and support. Together, we're making a real difference in the lives of our community members. Thank you Elinor, Cecilia, and Jeanne – we couldn't do what we do without our volunteers.

- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently donated funds to JFCS which will allow us to directly address the range of needs of families in crisis and help them achieve housing stability. We estimate this funding will provide assistance to more than 80 households over the next year, and the flexibility of the funding will allow us to "meet people where they are." We applaud The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' commitment to supporting local non-profit organizations with interfaith efforts in order to achieve the greatest good, and thank them for this generous and impactful gift!
