The Los Angeles Lakers are a professional basketball team located in Los Angeles, California. The Lakers are members of the National Basketball Association, playing in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The team originated in as the Minneapolis Lakers, moved to Los Angeles prior to the 1960 season. In their time in Los Angeles, the Lakers have called the Sports Arena, The Great Western Forum and STAPLES Center home. On the court, the Lakers have won 12 Championships in LA, in 1972, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, 2010, and 2020, to go with the 5 Championships won by the franchise while in Minneapolis.

Ten artists of color from across the Los Angeles region are being honored by the Los Angeles Lakers as part of the team’s annual In the Paint art program that recognizes, supports and uplifts artists from historically marginalized communities. Local art and culture company Band of Vices, LLC, located in the historic Downtown Los Angeles Arts District, collaborates with the Lakers to promote and progress the In the Paint program. Since the program’s launch in 2020, the Lakers have connected with and recognized more than 50 local creatives by showcasing their artwork, purchasing works for the training center and providing $400,000 in grants to help further individuals’ artistic endeavors. The Lakers have tipped off the Math Hoops Regional Tournament, presented by Comerica Bank, at the Boys and Girls Club of Wilmington. The tournament concludes this season of Math Hoops, featuring Boys and Girls Clubs and after-school programs from across the LA region competing for the 2024 Lakers Math Hoops Regional Championship.
