Susana López Charretón, PhD, is a leading Mexican virologist whose research on rotaviruses has paved the way for life-saving vaccines. She began studying rotaviruses when they were newly discovered in the 1970s , and her curiosity has driven decades of groundbreaking work. During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, López Charretón played a key role in sequencing the virus in Mexico, aiding efforts to track and control its spread. 📢 CALL FOR ARTISTS: 2025 Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition 📢 We’re excited to continue the legacy of the Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition, a cornerstone of Griffin MSI's 55th annual Black Creativity Program! 🎨#DYK: Displayed annual at the Museum since 1970, the Juried Art Exhibition is the longest-running exhibition of African American art. On this day 131 years ago, we received our charter from the State of Illinois. 💙 Take a look back at this photo from our opening day in 1894, when we still called Jackson Park home (you may recognize the building today as that of our friends at Griffin Museum of Science and Industry)! 🏛 Recognize any familiar specimens still on display today in these photos? 👀

What a way to kick off a short week! I was thrilled to be part of the opening ceremony for the Foglia Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation (CATI) at McHenry County College. This incredible 45,000 sq. ft. facility will provide hands-on learning, equipping students with skills in advanced trades like robotics, HVAC, and 3D printing. Griffin Museum of Science and Industry is proud to partner with MCC to bring our expertise and resources to the Foglia CATI, including the pursuit of MIT Fab Lab certification. This collaboration exemplifies our commitment to amplifying our impact beyond the museum’s walls, reaching new communities and empowering more people through STE(A)M education.
