NEF recently welcomed Dennis Donovan as our new Managing Director, Capital Markets. Prior to joining NEF, Dennis worked at Bank of America in a LIHTC capital markets group focusing primarily on broker fee generation as well as investing for the bank's own account. It's great to have you on the team, Dennis!
This week, four of our #affordablehousing developments were honored at the 2024 Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Awards ceremony in Washington D.C. Our first award winner is the Barrister in the Historic Preservation category. Co-developers Over-the-Rhine Community Housing (OTRCH) and Urban Sites transformed two vacant, historic office buildings in downtown Cincinnati into the Barrister, which offers 44 units of dedicated, high-quality affordable housing and 2,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor. While this #historicrehab project’s buildings are each nearly 150 years old, the Barrister breaks new ground as the first Low Income Housing Tax Credit (#LIHTC) project in Cincinnati’s Central Business District in over three decades. Congratulations to our partners at Over-the-Rhine Community Housing and Urban Sites and the investors involved in making this outstanding affordable housing development possible. This week, we're giving a warm welcome to Taylor Thorn, our new Operations Manager. Taylor is an accomplished professional in affordable housing real estate development, with a specialized focus on mixed-use and mixed-income projects utilizing Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) funding. Taylor’s work is deeply rooted in community development, leveraging a robust background in affordable housing, land banks, social enterprises, and nonprofits. Taylor holds a master’s degree in Community Development with a specialization in Economic Development from the University of Detroit Mercy and a bachelor’s degree in communications and Spanish from the University of Michigan.

Veterans now have a new place to call home thanks to our partners at Housing Authority of Cook County! Last week, the ribbon cutting ceremony was held for Otto Veterans Square, a new 82-unit #affordablehousing and permanent #supportivehousing development in downtown Chicago Heights, IL. This adaptive reuse of the former St. James Hospital is pet-friendly, creating space for service animals, and completely energy efficient, with partnership from the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program and Nicor and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Supportive services are offered through the Department of Veterans Affairs and Respond Now and include case management, access to community resources and emergency assistance, all of which are necessary for #veterans aging in place. NEF is thrilled to play a role in the creation of this development and is grateful to all of our partners fighting to end #homelessness for those who have served our country. Alyssa Andreska recently joined NEF as Asset Resolution Manager. Alyssa has worked in housing for almost 20 years in asset management, underwriting, compliance, property management, and program management, and has worked for a developer/owner/manager, two large housing authorities, a large LIHTC direct investor bank, and a syndicator. Prior to housing, Alyssa worked in mental health, in group home and shelter settings. Welcome to the NEF team, Alyssa!
