Oakland – you did it again! THANK YOU to everyone who participated in Creek to Bay Day 2024. Hundreds of Oaklanders came out on Saturday to clean up coastal and inland areas across town, helping protect and transform the environment we all share. A special thank you to our 37 project Site Coordinators—we couldn't have done it without you! We at the City of Oakland are grateful for the opportunity to support your unique events every year. Oakland Public Works is gearing up for the upcoming storm season! Our teams are clearing debris from culverts, drains, and other critical areas that can easily get clogged during heavy rains. It’s tough work in some challenging locations, but it’s all about keeping Oaklanders safe when storms hit. A big thank you to Oakland Public Works’ Stephen Ng and Christian Delgadillo, photographed here clearing out vegetation and debris to help reduce the risk of flooding during storm season. Join neighbors who are helping to reduce flooding and keep waterways clean by adopting a drain! 1,189 storm drains have been adopted across Oakland and there are many more to go! The City of Oakland has completed the first phase of the closure of a long-standing homeless encampment located on and around Martin Luther King Jr. Way between 20th and 25th Street in West Oakland. More than 25 encampment residents accepted shelter and services; 40 tons of debris were removed. The City is committed to maintaining access to essential public spaces while protecting critical public infrastructure and helping our most vulnerable residents move into supportive services.
