Updates
- The latest numbers from the BART Police Department show as enforcement activity has increased, the number of trains impacted by unwanted behavior has declined. In the first six months of this year, BART PD reported 10,359 enforcement contacts, which is nearly double from the 5,490 enforcement contacts reported for the first half of 2023. The increase in activity comes as BART continues to implement its Safe and Clean Plan. A focal point of the plan has been a major boost in BART PD’s visible safety presence on trains and in stations supported by devoting additional resources to hire and retain more officers.
Increase in BART Police safety presence resulting in fewer trains delayed by unwanted behavior | Bay Area Rapid Transit bart.gov - Dogs are cute. But some dogs have jobs to do, including when they’re riding BART. Handsome Ransom is San Francisco resident Kathleen Fraser’s Medical Alert Service Dog. He’s specially trained to save his handler’s life. Fraser has type 1 diabetes. Ransom alerts her when her blood sugar drops. But Ransom, like all dogs, can be distracted. So the Concord-based nonprofit Early Alert Canines has a PSA for how to interact with these service dogs and their handlers on BART. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gKr9twht
- BART set a new post-pandemic ridership record Thursday with 224,721 exits, the highest number since March of 2020. It was the third day in a row that BART ridership topped 200,000 exits. Ten of the top ten ridership days since the pandemic occurred in September, with weekday ridership remaining robust since Labor Day. "While our ridership numbers have yet to recover to pre-pandemic levels, these high ridership days are proof that our work to improve the rider experience with the Safe & Clean Plan and other efforts are paying off," said BART General Manager Bob Powers.
BART breaks post-pandemic ridership record | Bay Area Rapid Transit bart.gov - Our daily ridership yesterday crossed 200,000 for the first time since the pandemic started! That is 204,265 paid daily exists. With remote work trends shifting, its encouraging to see numbers go up. BART isn’t just for work, we have had more people taking us for fun. Ridership always increases in September but this year’s jump has been bigger than usual with 7% more riders than last year. Let’s keep it going. The last two A’s home games are this week followed by Usher at the Oakland Arena. Take BART!
- Bay Area transit agencies are working with Metropolitan Transportation Commission on new maps and signs that focus on service frequency, using standardized colors, line styles, and labels to indicate how often a bus, train, or ferry arrives. These designs offer a clearer, standardized experience across service areas and county lines. No matter where you are going or how you get there, we all want to make it clear and easy. The new maps and signs will be presented next Monday to the MTC’s Regional Network Management Council. The public is invited to attend online or in person to learn about their installation later this fall at transit hubs in El Cerrito and Santa Rosa. The public feedback will help inform the next stage of the project, in which the new maps and wayfinding materials are expected to be installed at seven additional locations across the Bay Area in 2025 and 2026. - Happy Dreamforce! Don't forget, we are running longer trains during the #DF24 conference.
- It is BART’s Birthday! And we got a great early gift yesterday: It was our busiest day since the pandemic started. Ridership has been on the rise lately and Tuesday we saw 195,296 riders! BART has more special days coming up. On Saturday we are giving our old paper tickets a send off. Students from around the Bay Area turned the tickets into high fashion. They will show off their looks 1 p.m. at Rockridge Station parking lot. And on Monday, the Transbay Tube turns 50! We launched an online trivia contest to help celebrate a half-century of service in the tube. The contest runs through Thursday: https://lnkd.in/gYujgE_kStay tuned for more and keep riding.
