Through investigative means, deputies learned that Mendoza had borrowed the weapon from a family member and brought it to school because she had a problem with another student. “It is unacceptable that someone would bring a weapon to school to terrorize another student," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Thanks to the quick actions of our School Resource deputy, we were able to prevent a potentially dangerous situation. Many deputies kept the community safe while #HurricaneHelene damaged their homes. Today, our cadets care for impacted #teamHCSO deputies and help with cleanup and repairs. It is a humbling reminder about what service truly is for the cadets.
Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise has lifted the evacuation order. You may now return to your home. However, please be careful as there could be unreported damage.

We are getting an aerial view of the extent of flooding in Hillsborough County. This is Town ’N Country, one of our hardest-hit areas by #HurricaneHelene. Please remain in your homes while the water recedes and #teamHCSO works to clear debris.
“This was the worst storm I’ve seen in 33 years,” Sheriff Chad Chronister explains to the community as he recaps how deputies rescued more than 300 people overnight from the floods that #HurricaneHelene brought to Hillsborough County.
We know there are several intersections without working traffic lights as emergency crews work to restore power around Hillsborough County. If you approach an intersection without working traffic lights, treat it as a four-way stop! Here are some quick tips: 1️⃣ 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲: All drivers must come to a complete stop before proceeding. 2️⃣ 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐚𝐲: The first vehicle to arrive at the intersection goes first. If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the vehicle on the right goes first. 3️⃣ 𝐁𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬: Make eye contact with other drivers to ensure they see you. Proceed slowly and safely.
