This morning, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, U.S. Representative for New York’s 21st Congressional District, answered questions from senators at her confirmation hearing to become the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. At 40, Stefanik would be the youngest-ever person to hold the position. She has previously served as House Republican Conference Chair and has been a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. 🇺🇳 During the hearing, Stefanik highlighted programs that exemplify efficiency, success, and strong American leadership, recognizing the critical role and impact of the World Food Programme, and noting that WFP receives "significant bipartisan support in both chambers of Congress and is supported by the American people." Food security is national security—feeding the world and combatting global hunger directly strengthens our security and prosperity here at home. Let us honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. whose words and actions inspired, and continue to inspire, not only a better America, but a better world.#mlk #martinlutherkingdr #history #civilrights
- 🇺🇸 Today, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States. As a new Administration takes over, U.S. leadership on the world stage is more critical than ever as it’s increasingly clear to the American people how instability abroad impacts kitchen table issues here at home. The Administration’s stated commitment to ‘peace through strength’—rooted in strategic and effective investments in development and diplomacy, alongside defense—will be key to outcompeting our rivals, preventing future wars, and advancing American security, prosperity, and values.#Inauguration #Trump #ForeignPolicy #Diplomacy #Defense #PeaceThroughStrength
- At yesterday’s #SFRC confirmation hearing, Senator Marco Rubio emphasized that the American people want "a strong America engaged in the world, but guided by a clear objective: to promote peace, abroad and security and prosperity here at home." #SenateConfirmation #ForeignPolicy
- ICYMI - USGLC President & CEO Liz Schrayer joined Mike Shanley on AidKonekt’s “The Aid Market Podcast” to discuss the 2024 election, its impact on foreign assistance, and USGLC’s efforts to ensure America shows up in the world going forward. Here are some of her key takeaways ⬇️ 💡 America's Global Leadership Impacts Kitchen Table Issues at Home “We need to be laser focused to make the case about what this means to… kitchen table issues and how we can win for the American people. So our number one priority is to make that connection of why investing in these development and diplomacy programs are effective, accountable, and are connected to our economic security interests.” 🇺🇸 'Peace Through Strength' Is More Than Just Military Power “What we heard from candidates, the President-elect, and in the Republican platform, is the thematic around peace through strength…People think of peace through strength as a huge military buildup, which it was, but it also was the high water mark on foreign assistance in terms of real dollars… So, as we were talking with candidates, as we heard on our stage at the Republican Convention, over and over again, is this idea of peace through strength, through our investment in economic development and diplomacy.” 🌎 Americans want Policymakers to Confront Global Threats “There's this huge global threat inbox that the new Congress and Administration have to deal with, whether they want to or not…We did some polling right around UNGA, and our polls showed that Americans are wildly concerned about global instability…and want us to show up because they want America to win, and they want part of the toolkit to be development and diplomacy.” 🎙️ Ready to dive deeper? 🔗 Check out the whole podcast at this link: https://lnkd.in/ex8zh_ty
