- This World Cancer Research Day, we honor the work being done across the globe to find cures and better methods of treatment for all kinds of cancer. At The Network, we value the partnerships that help us bring together the latest health innovations with the patients who need them. The Network is showing our dedication to this mission by participating in ASCO Quality Care Symposium on September 27-28, including presenting on topics such as the financial fallout of drug shortages, modeling and risk quantification in episode-based payment models, and the impact of health-related social needs assessments. Hope to see you there, Jessica Neeb MSN, RN, OCN, Dana Weber MSN, RN, John Albaugh #WorldCancerResearchDay #HealthInnovation #ASCOQLTY24

- Live from the Patient-Centered Oncology Care meeting, we're excited to share insights from The Network's panel, "Driving the Conversation, The US Oncology Network Leaders in Addressing Unmet Needs." McKesson and The Network have integrated the NCCN Distress Thermometer into the iKnowMed EHR, enabling practices to identify and address evolving patient needs, such as food insecurity and pain/sleep issues, through data-driven health equity planning. It's clear that addressing unmet patient needs requires the commitment of the entire care team, ongoing education, and partnerships with community organizations and payers—underscoring the importance of flexibility and open-mindedness in delivering impactful patient care.Judi Payne, Sr. Director of Clinical Services at The Network, emphasized during the panel "The New Math: What Does PIN Mean to the Enhancing Oncology Model?" that patient navigation is about being proactive—anticipating a patient's needs before they arise and being the stabilizing factor through the maze of cancer care. While patient navigation has proven its value in improving outcomes and reducing costs, Payne highlighted the significant barriers such as lack of telehealth options and high co-pays, which make it incredibly difficult to reach those most in need, underscoring the necessity for systems that work for all patients, especially those facing the greatest challenges.Stuart Staggs, Vice President of Transformation, Quality and Shared Services at The Network, took part in the compelling discussion “The Quadruple Aim: Are We Hitting the Mark in Cancer Care.” He highlighted how The Network is actively assessing and addressing Health-Related Social Needs (HRSN) to ensure patients have increased access to the best resources, the best programs, and ideally with no copays in the future. Staggs' insights underscore The Network’s commitment to removing barriers and enhancing the quality of care for all cancer patients, while creating better balance for care teams.
