How do I customize the look of my journal or community? (original) (raw)

You can customize your journal using the Select Journal Style page. Using this page, you can edit your journal's titles and change its theme.

You can search for a theme or layout by typing all or part of its name, keyword, color, or the designer's name into the Search box located just below the Select a New Theme section heading. You can also browse themes by using the categories listed down the side of the page or by clicking on the links for the name of a layout or the theme's designer below the theme previews.

You can view a preview of your journal in a particular style by clicking the Preview link in the top right corner of the theme preview thumbnail. Selecting Apply Theme below the thumbnail will change your journal's theme.

If you want to customize your journal's theme further, use the Customize your theme link in your Current Theme box (top right corner of the page). This takes you to the Customize Journal Style page, where you can easily configure a number of additional options.

If you have an account with Professional or Permanent package of service, you can have complete control over the look and style of your journal through the use of a custom style. This requires the use of the Advanced Customization pages, otherwise known as the Developer Area.

If you see the message This style system is no longer supported on the Journal Display page, your journal is set to use the old style system. Use "Switch to S2" link to switch to the modern style system.

Mobile View Adaptation

When viewed from a mobile device, any journal or community are displayed in adaptive design. The setting "Use my journal's style when viewed on a mobile device" is available for all accounts. If the journal or community has the Professional package of service activated, enabling this setting will make this journal or community display in non-adaptive style for all logged in mobile users. If the account has no additional packages activated, enabling this setting will make the journal or community display in non-adaptive style just for their owners.

Community Customization

All the options described above for customizing your journal also apply to customizing any community you maintain. In each case, once you are in the appropriate page or section, select your community from the Switch to: box and click Go before making changes. If a certain customization requires an account with Professional package of service, the community account itself must be an account with Professional package of service.
