Operation Holiday Card

November 2nd, 2008 (02:31 pm)

Operation Holiday Card is up and running again this year! This is a wonderful program that distributes Christmas, Hanukkah, and holiday cards with short personal messages to troops deployed overseas during the holiday season. This program was a huge success last year collecting over 16,000 cards.

I am asking people to write a note to an unknown service member inside your card, seal it, and send it to the address below. Cards can be for Christmas, Hanukkah (please write this on the back of your envelope), or general Season’s Greetings. Your words of support mean so much to these men and women. Remember each card you send is another service member touched.

This program works because individuals take this initiative to spread the word and collect cards with in their lives. Please pass the word about this project to everyone you know. Feel free to post it in your journals, other communities, promote it in your workplace, or your place of worship. One woman from my church last year collected 200 cards in her workplace. How many cards can you collect? Cards can be sent to:

Operation Holiday Card
226 Albany Ave

Shreveport, LA 71105

This year’s deadline will be Dec. 3, all cards must be received in Louisiana by that time. The cards will need plenty of time to get overseas. I thank you for your support of this wonderful project. There is so much support for our troops as they spend the holidays away from their families.

Please look at our new website http://sites.google.com/site/operationholidaycard/Home for more information. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at operationholidaycard@gmail.com

Thank you and God Bless you,

Operation Holiday Card

Where have I been?

November 2nd, 2008 (01:57 pm)

It has been FOREVER since Ive blogged. Believe it or not I do still read a lot of your posts, but I just haven't had time to post or comment. School has been busy. When N got home I found it almost impossible for me to work while he was home (he took 3 weeks off), so I got behind in my classes. Thus when he went back to work (two weeks ago) I was left to scramble to catch up and get back on track. I am getting there, but I feel like I just barely have my head above water this semester. I am SOOOO ready for graduation (in May!). Next semester I will only have 2 classes so that will be much better.

K is doing great in school! She is loving pre-school this year and doing some cool stuff! She came home on Thursday saying she had learned about air resistance, and showed us how a paper falls differently when you hold it differently. It was very cool! We had a scare on Thursday when her teacher accidently gave her 3 peanut butter cookies (she's allergic!) and everyone freaked out. Luckily K has no reaction what so ever, so we think she my be growing out of that allergy.

M is also enjoying him 2 day a week mom's day out program. He is having a hitting and kicking problem, but we are working on it.

Halloween was lots of fun! M was Spider-Man, and K was a princess. My parents came down for the weekend. It was lots of fun!

So that's where I've been! I'll try to post more, but no promises until this semester is over.

Operation Holiay Card is starting up again, so things will get even busier! :)

My little sweety!!!

October 3rd, 2008 (10:45 am)

We started potty training M on Wednesday. We knew we would do this when N got home, it was just time. He's catching on very well! :) He seems to be taking the same road as K and peeing like a champ, but having no desire to poop in the potty yet. He had\S even started to hide when he has to poop. He'll catch on. :) It's funny, we've been sitting next to M while he sits on the potty playing with him and stuff while he "sits and waits". Yesterday I was folding laundry and I stopped and said, "Oh, I need to go pee-pee, I'm going to the potty." (mommy modeling), I expected M to keep playing, but he came with me and sat so sweetly on the floor next to me in the bathroom while I pottied. It was sweet and funny at the same time. :)

N is unpacking right now. When the new furniture came in I put his clothes away, but with most of his clothes with him it was hard for me to put them away with any organization. So that made unpacking hard for him. So he had taken over the bedroom for the morning so he can unpack and organize his clothes in the new furniture at the same time. :)

A happy solution

September 29th, 2008 (12:55 pm)

We called Gateway this morning about my computer, after 45 minutes on hold I was given a 499pricequoteforanewscreen,plustheywouldhaveitfor"about2weeks"(aka3weeks).Ugh!Thatisrightonthecuspof"youmightaswellgetanewcomputer"andnotadecisionwewerelookingforwardtomaking.IhadbeentotheGeekSquadonSundayandwastoldabout499 price quote for a new screen, plus they would have it for "about 2 weeks" (aka 3 weeks). Ugh! That is right on the cusp of "you might as well get a new computer" and not a decision we were looking forward to making. I had been to the Geek Squad on Sunday and was told about 499pricequoteforanewscreen,plustheywouldhaveitfor"about2weeks"(aka3weeks).Ugh!Thatisrightonthecuspof"youmightaswellgetanewcomputer"andnotadecisionwewerelookingforwardtomaking.IhadbeentotheGeekSquadonSundayandwastoldabout500. So our next sop was the Fix My PC store near us. I walked into the store and the guy said, "I may have a used one for 150,letmegolook."Nowthatwouldhavebeenawesome!!!Butnohedidn′thaveone,sohesaidhecouldorderonefor150, let me go look." Now that would have been awesome!!! But no he didn't have one, so he said he could order one for 150,letmegolook."Nowthatwouldhavebeenawesome!!!Butnohedidnthaveone,sohesaidhecouldorderonefor250 + $35 for the install. SOLD!!!! Plus I will only be without my laptop for a few hours!! Woot!!!! Expensive, yes, but not nearly as bad as it was looking yesterday!!!!

It's funny, the kids won't let N out of their sight. :) If he goes to the bathroom or anything the kids are asking where he went or waiting outside the door! :) We gave K the option of staying home from school today and she said she wanted to go but on the condition that Daddy took her and she could show him everything in her classroom! :) Too cute! :)

Interruptions

September 28th, 2008 (07:16 pm)

Yesterday was a long day. I was just plain restless. I had everything set up on my computer, countdown clock, e-mail, flight status for both of his flights all set to go. The kids were napping and I had just finished my last post, I went to put my laptop back on the counter and somehow missed it and dropped it!! I quickly turned in back on to see what the damage was, the screen came up all white with cracked lines all over it! I was so upset, I just closed it up and couldn't even think about it. But thanks goodness it didn't happen last week or before while N was gone, I really wouldn't have been able to handle it!! But anyway, I have been able to hook it up to an old monitor so at least I am able to work on it. So N and I are looking at the options. We may just turn it into a desktop and get me a new laptop, or to go ahead and spring for a new screen. But that will be almost as much as a whole new laptop, so we'll see. It sucks! I am so mad, why oh why didn't I get the extended service package!!!???

But enough about that....N's flight got in early last night. I was lucky I was at the airport in time. :) There were a few guys from his squadron there to greet him. It was so wonderful to see him! :) We got all his stuff and headed home. The kids were completely asleep, but N got to tuck them in. It was sweet. N started to unpack a little, he brought back some beautiful sea glass jewelery! It didn't take too long for him to get sidetracked from the unpacking and on to the "other business" of the evening. It was after all reunion night. ;) But we kept getting interrupted! First the friendly neighborhood cat came around to rile up our cats, so we had to go close all the blinds or else they would fight all night. Then we set off the fire alarms in the whole house (they are all connected) with the candles in our room! (Scary that the kids never even flinched or woke up!) We couldn't figure out why they were going off for a while, then they stopped and started again in a few minutes. It was funny!!!

This morning was cute. K came in our room just after 7 to tell me that the TV wasn't on her channel. "Mommy, my tv isn't set...... (pause, looks over at the lump on the other side of the bed), Mommy, my tv (pause, looks again). Mommy!!!! I see daddy!!" I said, "Well go get him honey!" She ran over to the other side of the bed and jumped up to him. :) It was very cute!! About 10 minutes later M woke up, and K went into him room (we turned up the monitor to listen in on the conversation). "M, Daddy's home, come look! He's in Mommy's room, Your daddy's back. Come on!!" Too cute!!! The kids have been playing all day with him.

It's been a great day. He will be home tomorrow, then at work for a half day on Tuesday for in-processing, then start his two week vacation. It will be great to have him home full time for a while. :)

You haven't lived until.....

September 25th, 2008 (02:47 pm)

You haven't lived until you've had a two year old on STEROIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My sweet boy has gone insane! I warned his teachers today to give him a little leeway because he just isn't himself. He is pushing, hitting, and running in circles. I didn't give him his dose until after he got home from school today, so we should be in for a fun afternoon!!!

Thanks for all the replies yesterday. Yes I was SOOOOOO relieved to find the hair clip!!!

53 hours till N gets home!!! (3235 minutes) I found a little countdown clock online. :) I am going to keep it up for the next 2 days!!!!

Also- that tropical system I talked about earlier in the week has (as expected ) moved north, so it shouldn't cause us any problems. :) :)

Round and Round We Go.... [userpic]

YES!!!!!!

September 24th, 2008 (09:32 pm)

I got down on my hands and kneed tonight after the kids went to bed and searched the house for the "other clip" and I finally found it between the blinds in the dining room!!! M didn't swallow it!!! WOOT!!! I am so glad to know that I will not be spending the next few days sifting through poopy diapers!!!!

You've GOT to be kidding me??!!

September 24th, 2008 (07:22 pm)

M has had a nasty cough this week. Whenever he gets a cough it triggers his Asthma. I have a hard time distinguishing his congested breathing with wheezing, so we headed to the doctor to get him checked out. The doc said he sounded good, no wheezing, but wanted to get rid of the cough before it turns into something else. So M has been put on a short (4 days) course of steroids and an antibiotic. He has been on all of these meds before, and they always help him feel better pretty quickly. But the steroids have turned him into a CRAZY man this time around! He is running in circles, hitting his friends, and just plain being crazy!!! It will only be 4 days, but OMG he is crazy! I feel sorry for his Mom's Day Out teachers tomorrow (I

have

to be at school or I would keep him home).

I gave the kids baths tonight and while I was brushing K's hair M comes running to me with one of K's hair clips in his mouth! Now he is not a kid who put stuff in his mouth but he is not himself today. So I took it out of his mouth, but then I remembered that there were two clips sitting next to each other on the counter.....the other one is now missing! You've GOT to be kidding me!!!! I ask him where the other clip is and he couldn't tell me, I've looked on the floor and can't find it, so I must assume that he swallowed it. Here is the clip.

It's tiny, less than 1/2 an inch. But it does have a little metel in it and two sharp spikes if it were to come apart. So I called a friend who is a doctor and also showed the clip to another doctor friend who happened to be a church tonight. Both said it should "pass" just fine and if I haven't found it in 3-4 days to have him x-rayed to be sure. So I guess I get the motherhood joy of checking poop for the next few days! You gotta love motherhood!

3 days till N gets home! So he may get some of the poop checking joy! ;)

It better NOT RAIN!!!

September 23rd, 2008 (09:42 pm)

Ok, N is scheduled to fly out of Cuba on Saturday. 4 days! Woot!!! But.....yes there is one (highly unlikely, but still there) big BUT that could ruin everything! There is a tropical disturbance brewing in the Caribbean and I will be SERIOUSLY pissed if this developed into "Kyle" and messes everything up! This is highly unlikely, they little I know about this system has it going straight north and avioding Cuba all together. But here's hoping that Kyle does not become Kyle and stays far away from Cuba!

Marlie is mean!

September 23rd, 2008 (02:40 pm)

I didn't think that female Betta fish were as agressive as the males, but I guess I was wrong. Marlie faught with Charlie and in just over 24 hours she was dead. I saw them fighting and noticed the Charlie was missing much of her fins last night, so I put her in a little cup overnight and she was dead by morning. So I guess we are back to one fish again.

4 days!!!

Charlie and Marlie

September 21st, 2008 (01:22 pm)

Bravo finally died last night. The poor fishy had been clearly dying since early August. I think I have figured out that when Betta's die the die slowly. Anyway, we decided to try girl bettas this time around, so we have a red and a blue betta, Charlie (we had to keep the Alpha, Bravo, Charlie theme going) and Marlie (named by K). So far they seem pretty happy in there. :)

My friend Maura just left. We had a great time catching up. It had been at least ten years since we talked!

But now I really have to get to work! :)

6 days left!!!! N's replacement is on and working away! Also, I found 2 notes yesterday! I am down to only one to find! :) I can't believe I found 65 of 66! :)

Replacement Day!

September 20th, 2008 (10:03 am)

Today is Replacement Day!!! N's "new best friend" comes in today!!! YEA!!! One week from today he will be home!!!!!!

This should be a fun weekend. I found my elementary school best friend on Facebook last week and it tuns out she lives only three hours from here. So she is coming out here to spend the weekend! :) She should be here any minute. Yea!

Busy Busy Busy

I know I haven't posted in forever, but it's just be busy here. My semester is in full swing and I got behind last week while playing/reconnecting on Facebook. But the cool thing is that my elementary school best friend lives only 3 hours away and is coming to visit this weekend! It's been at least 10 years (more like 12) since I've seen her.

K is doing well in pre-school. It's taken some getting used to for her to go 5 days a week (last year she went 3 days), but other than that she is doing well and having fun.

M is getting the hang of Buddies (2 days a week). He still won't nap there, so we're working on that but then again he has never slept well outside of his own bed.

School is going well for me. 9 hours keeps me very busy!!

Nick is now 9 days from coming home!!! We are so excited! I am down to three notes left (of 66 he left around the house) still to find. How many times have I walked up and down the stairs to the bonus room??? Countless times, at least twice a day. Yet today I found Note #30 stuck up out of the lighting fixture on the wall! Funny!!!

Anyway just a quick post. while I take a break from me PowerPoint assignment for my Research in Literacy class!

more procrastination

Because I needed a little more procrastination in my life I joined Facebook! I haven't touched my school work since!

Could it be....a normal week????!!!

September 9th, 2008 (01:08 pm)

I am alone in my house right now!! I can not tell you the last time I was alone in my house (minus the day between when my kids went to WI and I went to NYC), seriously, I can not think when that was.

This is our first week of normallcy. K started school last week on Thursday (late because of Gustav). She is loving it! Her teacher is very set in routines and procedures and once K get's a hang of it it will be wonderful. She came home yesterday proudly showing me her gummy bear (warm and squishy from being held in her hand in the pick up line, Beuller?) that she got at the end of the day for having a good day! I was so proud! M started Buddies (2 days a week 9-2) for the first time today (again depayed by the storm). When I left him he was not happy, but not crying, and I didn't get a call yet so that's a good sign. So this is our first week of the normal school year schedule. We will be busy but that is good, the weeks will go by quickly.

Monday - K school till 12
Tuesday - M & K school till 2, I have school in the morning then it will be my grocery day
Wednesday - K school till 12, then church for dinner and music classes
Thursday - M & K school til 2, I have school in the morning, babysitter comes at 3 for my study night
Friday - K school till 12
Saturday - K & M swim lessons in the morning
Sunday - church and Sunday school

Repeat all school year. It's a busy week, but it will be great for us to keep moving.

On another note it looks like Hurricane Ike will head for Texas and spare Louisiana. No offence to Texas, but they can have this one, we are spent after Gustav. N managed to dodge the worst of it in Cuba, so that's a good thing too. 18 days till he gets home! WOOT!!!

EDIT- M had a GREAT day at buddies! He didn't cry the whole day! Woot! He didn't nap, so he's pretty tired, but other than that he did great! :)

Love note or chore reminder?!

September 5th, 2008 (11:05 am)

So we are down to 22 days till N gets home and 8 notes to find. So N is giving my clues. This time he said note #29 was regarding a chore N does (not me) and it would be found in a dark place.......I just found note #29 in the attic with the extra air filters! No they had not been changed since N left 4 months ago. :) Needless to say, I went ahead and changed the filters and hung up note #29. :)

It's on the calendar!

September 3rd, 2008 (09:39 am)

I just got a date for N's return!!! 24 days!!!! :) WOOT!!!!
